High heels for warriors? Seriously? Is there a script to fix this?

There's some apparent confusion regarding "high heels" here. Men did not "historically" wear "high" heels as properly defined being 3" or more. Men wore a 2" heel at most. That is not "high".

There is no cutoff or specific definitiion that defines high heels as being 3 inches or more that I have ever heard of. Please cite your definition and source.

Louis XIV is universally considered one of the most popular high heeled shoe weaers of his age.

Thongs (aka flipflops, jandals, etc) are the answer.  You just kick them off, when you need to run fast.  Slip one off, to slap someone who insults you.  Handy for dealing with those pesky children or spouses.  And, if you so desire, you can get them in wedge and platform varieties, too.

Being rubber soled, one will never slip on those metal space ship floors.

Yes, what the heck. This sounds like a definition specifically invented to make high heels "only a woman thing."

Of course they don't.  That's why we use women in stilettos wink

I know, I have the same problem with some sci-fi outfits, I mean why heals when you are out exploring an unhospitable planet for the Force's sake??!

I usually work around this in 4 ways:
    1. Either I just push the heals down below the ground they are standing on, so it looks like flats.
    2. If the heals are their own maps, I turn them invisible
    3. I post-work them away
    4. And if none of these are possible I use a d-former to flatten it

Usually I do a combination of 2 or more.

    Not ideally, but it works.

...I'd be worried they'd puncture the hull leading to a decompression.

If the fantasy outfit is supposed to look sexy, then high heals can compliment that depending on the style.

I dont believe artists should be forced to make a non sexy footware version of an outfit if that does not match the "look" of their outfit. And I dont think it would significantly contribute to sales as most people who want outfits less sexy wouldn't buy that style of outfit in the first place.

Which outfit are we talking about in particular ? What genre is the outfit ?

In the fantasy genre people are supposed to look sexy - its part of the genre - including revealing clothes, musclebound barbarians, magic and monsters. And yes high heals can fit some outfits.

In a realistic historically accurate setting its different obviously, but is this outfit designed for that genre ?

Who knows maybe gents will start wearing heels in the future just as they did in the past. =-) I tend to find sci-fi that apes current trends to be... rather pedestrian. The idea that what we consider sexy now wil, be the same in the future disregards thousands of years of interesting fashion trends which have diverged from the present trends.

    yes

Yeah, I don't think in the future ships would have floors like that.  When metal gets wet?  SLIPPERY!

Why do future people need to wear shoes at all? Perhaps shipfolk will have bare feet and beautiful pedicures? Perhaps the bare feet provide added traction on rails or even that the feet are engineered with more useful toes for gripping and grabbing?

Or perhaps the future is dystopian and each citizen gets only one pair every few years and they are strictly rationed by computer because of the expensiveness if the synthetic leather... maybe you sleep with your boots in to avoid having them stolen from you.

so many things you can do with footwear in a sci-fi setting..

I ... disagree that Fantasy people must look sexy.  Among other things, "sexy" isn't that universally set (and the definition of "sexy" males has a lot more variation.  I don't like body-builder levels of muscles or overly skinny pretty boys, both of which some people do find "sexy" for guys.)  And for some people, they want their fantasy to be more grounded in reality.  Let's face it, in reality, magicians don't cast fireballs, but just becuase I have a female sorceress casting fireballs doesn't mean she needs to be wearing skimpy clothing inspired by Frazetta and doing the dungeon crawling in 5" spikes.  Now if someone else's sorceress is trapsing around in something reminicent of Leia's slave costume with 5" spikes, that's their choice.   But it isn't a requirement, and I really think we do a diservice to the Fantasy genre by insisting it can only be one way, and that way must be "sexy"

stilettos are called this way for a reason

    just a foot weapon

    female fantasy warrior says:

"wait i have to sharpen my heels(stiletto)"

I agree. No need for 5" spikes. They must be 6" minimum. smiley

Honestly I'm amazed at such strong feelings about shoes. Since you find high heels in just about every shoe store on the planet, clearly they are popular with many/most people. As a guy, I know that many/most guys (not all, but most) like how women look in high heels. If others don't understand that, then fine, but why not accept the reality? Most guys like beautiful women dressed sexy. That ain't gonna change any time soon as far as I know.

They can like it all they want.  I'm not making my art for their pleasure.  I'm making it for mine, and mine only occasionally calls for sexy over practical.

(And don't get me started on women's fashion...  I've had to put up with the demands of fashion for 45 years.  It's a factor in why I learned to sew.)

  • I had a pair of those boots with just the flat "medieval" sole on them. Wish I could've gotten a proper sole put on them before they wore completely through.

I wear at least a 3/4" heel these days for my Dexters. Of course with the extra padded insoles I also have to wear, I'm hitting 2" on my work boots lol

You'll have to grab another set of boots and match the color and/or texture using shaders.

I've done that with dresses and shoes- use the same shader on both and suddenly it looks like a set.

Shaders are a great bandaid and secret weapon. lol

My Black Kat character would definitely not wear high heels unless they were really thick. I found some nice DX30 ones and reshaded them to match her outfit. Works perfectly. She's wearing them on the cover of my first Black Kat book, along with OOT's Cateye Suit. It used to bother me that most of the fantasy armors had high heels, but then again, it IS fantasy. Put whatever you like (or not!) on your characters. 3D is versatile enough to accommodate everything.
