Installing Products in Smart Content?

It's kind of weird that the Install Manager has already installed the stuff into my DS already, yet I can always install them again through Smart Content? It's not like it makes any difference at all but makes the products highlight into "New". What does it do?

Smart Content isn't the "other" installer, it's linked to DAZ Connect. Smart Content isn't that smart and Connect doesn't seem to talk to DIM.
