HD and render times

THis is probably a dumb question, but I will ask anyway. I am pretty sure that HD textures add to render times in 3dl (not sure about iray).

But do HD morphs ALSO add to render times?

Oh, yes... even more than textures... all those shadows in added geometry....

Well I'd say high resolution geometry adds to render times and HD morphs require HD mesh to work, so that would be a yes. Combined with raytracing reflections and/or refraction it's a definite yes.

...why I avoid them myself.  Don't need to expand render times even more (particularly Iray)

It's been so long since I played with 3Delight...
If I remember correctly, Displacement Maps...  That was the easiest way to massively increase your render times.

Interesting. I use displacement maps all the time and don't see an issue, but with some figures if I have the HD morphs on, the memory usage skyrockets. IN fact, with one a just bought, if I have the hd details on my system freezes. I thought it was the texture subsruface settings, but I tried without HD morphs and it worked fine. I originally asked because even doing a spot render took like 15 minutes with one figure, but if I remove the hd detail it was like 3, so i assumed that was the case. Thanks everyone.
