Question regarding splitting an object

Noob question here. Is it possible to split an object into two distinct objects in DAZ Studio itself without exporting and importing from other 3d software applications .

  • If there are edges along the desired split, yes - use the Geometry Editor to select all of one of the future halves, right-click>Geometry Assignment>Create selection set from Selected. Save as a working copy. Select the Selection set, if it isn't, right-click>Geometry Visibility>Hide selected Polygons, right-click>Geometry Editing>Delete Hidden Polygon(s), save as an a new asset of file. reload the working copy, repeat as above but this time right-click>Geometry Visibility>Hide Unselected to get the other half.

  • Many thanks Richard

  • Another noob question(apologies) I understand what you are trying to do here but what is a working copy save?

File>Save As>Scene Subset, saving the model - just so you don't have to select the polygons on the mesh twice.

Avinash, save all your work just before doing this procedure. DAZ sometimes crashes when you attempt to delete hidden geometry. Keep reloading and retrying, and eventually it will work. Then immediately save again so you're sure to have saved a copy of the modified object.

Have you ever submitted a bug report on that since you know what is causing it? If it can be reproduced it's worthy of a ticket.

  • Much appreciated everyone for your valuable insight.
