Looking for the easiest (fewest steps) fix for the Duplicate Files Found Error

I have been getting the Duplicate Files Found error everytime I attempt to load a saved G3F model for a little over a week, now. I was not getting this error before that, and I did not update to 4.10 until after I started getting the error. I have uninstalled and deleted all the basic G3 files that I have- I think- not including poses and clothes, but that did not help. Checking the log file, this is a sample of the error I get:

2017-10-27 11:51:47.725 WARNING: fileinput\dzassetdaz.cpp(5970): Duplicate formula found linking yOrigin & XID_Genesis3Male in L:/My DAZ 3D Library/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Morphs/My_User_Name/Product/alias_Genesis3Female_XID_Genesis3Male.dsf.

There are, I kid you not, literally hundreds of lines like that, all nearly identical.

I have read the file regarding when Genesis was seeing this error, but I'm not certain how to effect the solution suggested there; for one thing, I simply lack the technical know-how. At this point, I'm trying to find the easiest solution short of dropkicking my computer through a window.

  • Formula, not file. It means there's a bug in a single item (repeating the same ERC linkage, possibly with diferent values) or two items have property of the same name linked to another property or prperties with matching names. Have you created any of your own morphs, especially using ERC Freeze? Can you remember installing new content just before the mesages started to appear?

  • Um... I don't think I have? I think the last thing I downloaded before the error popped up was the xenics101 HD muscle morphs for G3M, though.

Would uninstalling, then reinstalling all my content correct the error? Or, at least, would that be a viable next step? (I have a library of nearly 5000 items, but I've got a good internet connection, so... it can download and install while I sleep, right?)

  • Try uninstalling from the recent stuff working back, though if you've used any of the File>Save as>Support Assets sub-menu commands those might have caused the issue and uninstalling won't help.

  • Okay... Um. I feel like my parents, and I suspect part of the problem is that I'm looking for a simple solution where one doesn't exist. More to the point, even if one does exist, I suspect part of the problem is that I grabbed the wrong information in my initial perusal of the log file and, as a result, I didn't give enough and/or correct information.

One of my confederates reminded me that I had been attempting to figure out a way to transfer a morph over to another figure (I wanted vampire fangs on a figure I didn't have fangs for), and I may have screwed something up when I was failing to accomplish that. If that's the case, I still don't know how to fix it, since I can't seem to find a folder for support assets anywhere in my library.

Anyways, in an attempt to clarify my problems, I've loaded a new file and then copied the log file in the hopes that someone could tell me what I should actually be looking for and how to fix it... or if shotgun therapy is really the best solution for my problems. I've also loaded a considerably less complicated scene that pops the same error and copied over that log file, as well. I will note that the file loads, it's just super slow and it pops up an error message, everytime: "Duplicate formulas found in files. Make sure that the content is properly installed. See the log file for more details."

  • So whatvwere you loading there? The base figure or a saved scene? Most of the duplicate formula errors are coming from a scene fvile, not assets. It does, however, appear that you have copied some morphs from another figure into \Data\Daz 3D\Genesis 3\Female\Morphs, which is where the morph asseys live - sorting that out could be tricky, though I'm not sure it will do worse than slow loading.

  • The second one is a single figure with hair; the first is a full scene. I was hoping (I'm an optimist!) that the second file would help narrow down the issue.

  • I'm not sure how the base figure could end up linking back to a scene file - presumably something in the /Data/Daz 3D/Genesis 3/Female/Morphs folder is pointing to that. If you look in that /Data folder are there files and folders that look like your additions/moves, rather than being from content installs? You could try temporarily removing them and see what happens - however, I've a nasty feeling you may be looking at the nuke-from-space solution to fix this.

  • Hum. Uh... looking in the L:\My DAZ 3D Library\Data folder, everything appears to be more folders, mostly linked to products I bought (the DAZ 3D folder is in there, too, so I'm not sure if I should count that...)

If I go to the L:\My DAZ 3D Library\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 3\Female\Morphs folder, there's a folder with my name on it, inside of which is a folder that says "Products", and that folder appears to have a bunch of .dsf and .dhdm files that I cannot account for.

    ...

How's that nuking-from-orbit option work again?

  • Well, you certainly didn't create the .dhdm files yourself - those are HD morphs - so I would try removing the folder with your name entirely (don't delete it in case theer is any of your own work in there) and then see if the duplicate and vertex count errors are still happening.

  • Hm... well... I get the same error, but now I get an additional message. "Missing Files: Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The content may not work as expected. The following files could not be found: data/daz 3d/genesis 3/female/morphs/avery leckrone/product/phmmouthrealismhd.dsf"

I note that, apart from those errors, everything still seems to work properly.

Also, here's the latest log file.

  • Mouth Realism shouldn't be there. have you tried loading just the default Genesis 3 female or is this still working on saved scenes? Working from the base eliminates some variables.

  • I don't get the error messages at all when I load a base figure. Further, if I save the base figure and make no changes, I don't get the error message on loading it. Here's the log file for a clead load.

  • OK, so the issue is the scene files and not the figure generally - that's good. It may be simplest to load a fresh copy of the base figure into your scene and apply the same settings to it (copy-and-paste should work then refit the clothes and hair and save under a new title 9or even save a Sceen Subset to be really thorough about clearing out any left-overs).

  • That just went right over my head. Lemme see if my translation is on target: my best bet is to reload my base figures (of which I have many), readjust them to the correct morphs, then resave them?

Before I do that, let me ask this: if I uninstall and reinstall DAZ and my entire content library... will that fix the problem? Or is the problem integral to the individual scene files?

For the record: I have dozens of BASE models that I use, so anything that avoids me having to recreate each and every one is preferable... but if I managed to screw the pooch, somewhere, then I'll do what I need to to fix it. I'll just piss, moan, and cry a lot in the process.

  • I don't know - it does sound as if the characters you have saved are all affected and no, I am not confident that a full reinstall would work since they seem to have references to a .duf (user-facing) file as well as to the hidden .dsf asset files. I'm not at all sure of the precise root of the problem, which makes it hard to offer meaningful advice.

  • Clearly, I need someone to stand in the background and flog me when I'm about to unwittingly do something stupid...

What makes this really, really frustrating for me is that I don't know what it was I did to create the problem- I'm sure I was the one who did it, but I don't know how- and I can't think of any way of reversing the steps to get back to zero.

    Sigh.

You've been tremendously helpful, given the dearth of useful information I was able to give; I guess, now, it's up to me to rebuild all my figures from the ground up.
