How do I Save Geometry Editor Surface as a Visibility Preset?

I used Geometry Editor to solve the problem of fitting G1, G2, G3 shoes to G8F.  I want to do this for specific lengths along the leg to accommodate the various shoes I own.

I want to be able to apply this to any G8F figure like a visibility preset.  How do I do this?

  • Geometry Visibility cannot be saved as a preset, and does not persist between sessions. What I would do is, with the boots loaded and fitted and the unwanted areas selected, right-click Geometry Assignment>Set Auto-Hide Faces for Atachment, then select the boots, and finally save the boots as an asset.

I've been wondering the same thing. I noticed a promising menu item for the Geometry Editor, but have been in the middle of a project. I just went and checked it out, and it is what you and I both have been looking for! Here you go:

With your figure selected, use the Geometry Editor to select the faces you want to hide.

Right-click in the scene. In the resulting drop-down menu, scroll down to and select "Geometry Assignment". Then scroll all the way down to and select "Set Auto-Hide Faces for Attachment…" A dialog will open allowing you to select the object that will auto-hide the faces when loaded. (Be sure to select the toenails, too. I didn't when I was testing this. Oops.) Save. (File->Save as->Support Asset->Figure/Prop  Assets…)

ETA: I see Richard beat me to the answer. lol

Yeah, there seems to be a new and "exciting" glitch with the forum - many people's posts aren't showing up for me until MUCH later. Even if I refresh the page before posting to make sure no one else has posted anything new, it will show no additional posts. But when I go back to the thread later I'll see there have been several posts that just appeared before mine. Posts just showing up quite a bit later ...It's frustrating and it's been getting worse over the past couple of days.

WOW, that works Great!  I'm going to do that for every shoe I can!

    Thanks Richard Haseltine and L'Adair!

hahah Sounds like a great fix! I'm glad you found a solution. I'm going to use this solution too - I have too many cute shoes going unused because they don't fit properly to the newer figures. lol :) Thanks, Richard and L'Adair! :)

Thanks, dracorn, for starting these two threads! I'm happy to have learned how to use those ill-fitting boots with the new characters! :) It will definitely expand my character's shoe wardrobe! laugh

Well, in this case, it was all me. I was on another computer testing out my "theory" that I'd found the solution. By the time I posted it was, according to the timestamps, 8 minutes after Richard. I left my post because Richard's post told us what to do, but my post told us how to do it.

I hadn't thought of using it that way. I was just looking to hide the feet on a few G3 shoes that used this feature that I'd converted to G8. Now I'll have to see if I can make G2 and earlier footwear work by hiding the feet! lol

You are welcome!  I am busy creating a tutorial right now.  I happen to like my icons looking pretty.

Too bad it won't work for any shoe that has the feet showing, like pumps.  Oh, well.  At least I can use my boots and close-toed shoes.

I completed the tutorial.  You can also find the link in my signature under "Fitting Old Shoes to Genesis 8."

    Very useful feature!

Someone knows if there`s a way to make the polygons visible again while the item is still atached?

There isn't a way to completely remove the effect (without hacking the files), unless it's a very recent addition - the nearest solution is to select just one polygon to sacrifice to the AutoHide group. Note that you would have to unfit the item and refit it to see the change (that threw me the first time I tried).

    Thank you!

Sadly I was hoping there was an easier way to revert the effect in case the user wanted the polygons visible for some reason. But it is still a good feature :)

  • Hey there,

I am reopening this thread smiley  Is there now a way to remove the effect?
