Let's say I have a basic afternoon scene.

Obviously, the lightning would be natural from the windows and whatnot, but after that, how exactly do I make my characters have that same light shine upon them as well? do I light the scene so it looks good and THEN also do a 3 point light setup or something for the character in the scene with the additonal light already there? Thats how i do it ..- first i light the scene and try so long it looks good. However ... its quiet normal that people inserted into this scene look bad ... usually too dark and absolutely not pronounced. So .— add 2p or 3p lights to light the poeple. Other way would he that you try to hide walls ... ceiling ... and use enviro light ...

For interior scenes mainly lit by windows you may want to use the architectural sampler and light portals. Tone mapping of course must be right. If it stills too dark you may add some ghost lights to improve darker areas. Then if you need some rim lights for characters that's ok too. But of course it will look somewat artificial and/or studio-like. It's just a matter of what you want to get.
