Light from spotlight not appearing in render?

Hi when I render my figure using Nvidia iray photorealistic I notice half the face is in shadows which is not what I want.

So i added a spotlight, and in my viewport the character is much more brightly lit,  and I rendred again but i see no difference.

So I turn up the intensity in the spotlight params and I see bighter light on the chracter in my viewport, but I render again and no difference.

I check the spotlight params and I see a param  'visible in render' is set to yes, so that looks fine.

Is there something else I am missing?

Thanks!

how bright is that light? You generally need to crank it to 50,000-150,000 level...

The Intensity parameter is not used for photometric (Iray) lights.

do you the light source in the render settings set to include scene lights? You need "Scene Only", or "Dome and Scene"

With "Sun/Sky" or "Dome Only" spot lights will not cast any light regardless of how bright it has been set.

  • You need to make the lumens higher. Also, if you are only wanting the face lit up, select your spotlight as your view camera and zoom in closer to the face. Both of these will brighten up your face.
