Our very own @timmins.william (who has been creating and distributing awesome freebies for us for ages) has joined the ranks of the Daz Published Artists! Congratulations, Will!

The shaders look awesome (and they're a merchant resource! SWEET!!)!

Check out Will's great new Shader Set and Merchant Resource in the Daz store: https://www.daz3d.com/iridescent-shaders-for-iray

Congratulations again, Will! I wish you awesome success as a Daz PA! :)

(dances) Thank you! I'm over the moon.

Lots of ideas for more shaders. One of my goals is to make shaders that are reasonably easy to use with lots of useful presets; one issue with the free stuff is that a lot of it was really confusing for anyone who wasn't me, even with documentation.

Thanks for the support and good vibes since I've been doing this, Diva.

You're most welcome! The PA-ship? PA-ness? is much deserved! :)

The shaders look great! I'm looking forward to seeing many more products by you in the store! yes

Oh - you should add a link to your shiny new Daz store in your signature. :D I know a lot of PAs do that and it's helpful to steer traffic to your store.

Will, question about the product (congrats btw)...

Can this be used to darken skin at glancing angles?

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,095

Yes, but note that the shaders do not have top coat. If that's important for your skin, that's a problem.

I think you'd be better off using the 5 color shader rather than the simpler shader. The 5 color shader can make sharper transitions, and you'd make iridescent color 1-3 or so white (which doesn't change the underlying tint) with maybe a ramp up from 4 into 5.

The fifth iridescent color sometimes doesn't show much (since it's almost perpendicular to the camera), so juggle a bit.

Looks like fun I like the beatle  render...

  • Hey, congrats! I bet these look amazing animated.

Gonna see how this works for a chameleon car.

I've been thinking of trying an animation of the beetle but I have very limited experience with animation.

I think that would be interesting... I never really thought of how beetles walk before. Research would be required to get the legs to move properly.... one benefit i guess though is that  they more really slow...

A lot of insects do a triangle pattern. Like, right front and back and left middle moves forward, then mirror it.

I think millepedes and centipedes do similarly just replicated along.
