Difference between saving as a morph asset and as a character preset?
Hi folks,
sorry if this has been answered already somewhere else. I am quite new in the forum as well in modleing business. I have created my first morph and saved it as a morph asset. I could find the dial in the parameters and shaping panes but I also wanto see it in the content library / smart content . After googling on it, I learned that saving as a character preset , I can access my morph in the smart content, too . Then the following questions arise?
1-) What are the differences between morph assets/ character presets? similarly dsf/duf file formats? Which format I need to use if I want to distribute my product?
2-) Why don't I see "data" folder in the content library under "My DAZ 3D library" in DS? The folder is actually there when I browse it, and it is where the morph assets are saved under a hierarchy. Is it hidden somewhere in content library or totally not accessible within Content DB?
Thanks a lot for your replies...

"data" folder is a folder holding technical stuff (geometry, morph data, uvs...). Those files are required but none of them are usable directly in DS, so it's hidden.
A morph asset is a file containing details on how a given morph deforms the mesh when it is applied. Basically, it's the morph definition. Adding a morph asset file in the right part of the data folder will enable your figure to use the morph.
A character preset is a script which set the value of various parameters on your figure, including morph dials and materials. The character preset will only work if your figure has the actual morphs.
So for a custom morph you would need both types of files:
- a morph asset corresponding to your new morph, with 0 as default strength.
- a shaping preset or character preset (depending on whether you want to apply only the morph or the morph + materials) to apply the character.
If your character uses existing morphs which are not merchant resources, like DAZ head and body morph packs, then you would only distribute a preset setting the values to those morphs.
Leana, thank you so much for your quick and clear response! This was the missing point for me to understand and sort the things in creating / distrubuting a character morph. Your answer helped me a lot, in this respect !
