Iray Poke through issues

Hi all!

I noticed something odd recently: Daz Studio loads a scene in the viewport in texture shaded mode by default for me. Whenever I render in iray, I always switch that texture shaded mode to Iray to see what the render will look like, before I let it render out for an hour or so. Recently, I get a lot of renders that look completely fine in Iray "shaded mode", but when I do the actual render, the result shows a poke-through of a G3 figure body part through its clothing. That same poke-through is not there in "Iray shaded mode"... I get some issues using certain hair figures too, but whenever the hair figures cause an issue, that issue is also visible in the "Iray shaded mode" within the viewport, so I can avoid these in my final render. But as far as clothing poke-throughs go, it's pretty much hit and hope... And I'd like to avoid that. Any tips?

Thanks a lot,

Me

  • The Iray preview is probably set, in Draw Settings, to use Interactive mode - that has some features turned off compared to the Photoreal mode used in the render. I suspect the poke-through is due to displacement.

I get it a lot too particularly with hd morphs. I put in a ticket recently for several men's hd products which cause pokethrough when rendered

  • Thanks for the feedback!

So Can we set that interactive mode to something else so poke-throughs will also show up in the Iray Preview?

Yes, set it to photoreal, and that should, in theory, show you what the final render will look like

Same, HD morphs tend to poke thru when rendered and not in textured or preview mode

I was told to add a push modifier to the clothing at .10 percent. It works but I would prefer the products get fixed since I should be able to add hd parts t my figures without doing that.

And fsmc designs is correct... the pokethrough doesn't show unless it is rendered

I often like Push at .1 because I think it gives some clothes a bit more apparent 'heft.'

Also, make sure it's High Resolution (subd) and I usually also have collision on for good measure.

  • Hi all!

It would appear my draw settings were aleeady set to photoreal. And the poke through doesn't show in preview... We really need a solution to have a reliable preview when rendering with Iray...

If I apply a push modifier to clothing items of 0.1, does that guarantee no poke-throughs? I am using HD morphs on my figures.

    Thanks a lot,

I usually get good results at .1 but a quick 5 second render and stop will let you know if you need to do more. I find the vein products will add small fissures in various locations and the other bodyparts are affected differently. If you find a specific product is creating a pokethrough issue please submit a ticket so it can be fixed

  • thanks!!! I'm using your approach by rendering out on a smaller resolution (active viewport) for a minute or two and see what I get. Not ideal, but for now it will have to do... Can't wait for tickets being resolved, renderring... must... continue... ;)

    Thanks a lot,

Most characters load with render lod one level above the preview lod. If you look under mesh resolution and make them match that should help.
