they don't all support HD
in daz studio.
to clarify, i was talking about daz's victoria 8 HD addon. https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-8-hd-add-on
thanks, Mistara...just edited my original post for clarity's sake.

oh.
think you meaning buying the V8 hd add-on, without buying victoria 8?
well, i have victoria 8. i was just wondering if the HD addon would work decently if applied to the genesis 8 female base.
daz never seems to offer an HD addon for the base generation figures. (that's always seemed to me to be an kind of an odd bet to miss, as it seems likely it'd outsell the more specific ones.)

It works but I am not sure I can see a lot of difference
The one in white has the HD Add on and was rendered at Subd 4
If the V7HD is any indication, yes, the V8HD will work fine on G8F. And I think the reason they don't create one specifically for the base female (or male) is that there will be plenty of those created by PAs.
thank you, Tottallou and daywalker03...
as you say, Tottallou, that render really didn't show much difference...pretty surprising at SubD level 4!

I can see a difference in the knees and feet and if the hands were visible one would likely see a difference there as well, as that's where HD add-ons tend to make the most difference in distance shots. And in the close-up I definitely see a difference between regular G8F and the HD render you posted.
However, I refuse to purchase the HDs unless the price goes REALLY low or they start including them with the figure. Charging nearly twice the price just to also have the HD is pretty gross, IMO. And I can get a similar look with upping the normal maps and bump maps. Not the exact same, of course, but similar added detailing. I do wish they included the HD in the price of the Daz Original characters. For now though I just either fake it with the normal maps and bump maps and/or buy HD characters from a small handful of the PAs who do really great HD detailing with their characters.
You'll notice the difference more if you compare the hands and feet.
Greetings,
Interesting; I notice it at the throat, the knees, the feet, and the lips in roughly that order. The arms are a bit more detailed, but not a lot, and the hands aren't really visible in that picture.
It's subtle, and it's all about photorealistic. If you're going for that, then the subtle things matter.
