Farm Render on Iray Server

Hello Folks,

I've just spent the day playing around on an Iray Server online that you can directly connect to within DAZ Studios 4.9.  I signed up for a Nimbix account (https://www.nimbix.net/) and started an Iray Server on their site.  They issued a user name and password for the Iray Server and I simply plugged that into DAZ Studio Render Setting under the Advanced tab, Bridge (Beta).  It's pretty straight forward and I was surprised that it simply just worked.  You could select from a plethera of different configurations of servers from 4 cores to 32 cores, Nvidia M2090 to Nvidia M40.  They also had a Nvidia DGX-1 which I played around in for a only a little while as it was expensive.  Prices range from $1.10/hr to $59.40/hr.

You can render by submitting your work into the queue and let it generate the files on their server.  Or you can "stream" the rendering for their server to take the load and receive back the file just as you would when you hit the render button.  I haven't yet figure out how to do animations yet.  It seem to not support animations as it reloads every frame just like you would when you first render in iray.  The reload kills any advantage you would gain with a server.  But for single frame, it's pretty sick on the super dupper thingy computer.

I don't know if there are others cloud computing that directly works within DAZ Studio but I just thought I share.

...sounds interesting. Will have to look into it when I get home. I cannot adford a big VRAM GPU card and am working on an older system.
  • Let me know how it works out for you.  I know the cost issue will be debated but besides that, it's nice to have the muscle for hire if you need it for a complex scene or in a time crunch.  I just wish it could shorten animation times.

Yeah, I'd like to see the numbers but just for kicks.

Should have all the parts for my new rig next week.  smiley

  • Hi. I've been trying this on Nimbix but Daz seems to be stuck with "Uploading to Bridge queue" when I hit "Render".

The settings are ok (server, username, port and password) but it stays at 33% of "Rendering image" and 100% "Uploading to bridge queue"...

    What am I doing wrong?

Voridor > I'm experiencing the same issue. Were you able to resolve it? When I open up the nimbix iray server web console, it shows 0 jobs queued. The resource log shows that daz connects successfully but daz never actually succeeds at uploading jobs to the queue.

edit: It's working now. It may have been a temporary server side issue. Works great! I was able to render a complex scene that was taking 2 hours on my local system and was able to render it in ~12 minutes on the nimbix server.

Be really interesting to get render performance numbers on various configurations that we could turn into some kind of “what is this render likely to cost me” vs “how long is it going to take” metrics.

I am having sort of the same issue.

I have been able to render small items. Like a "safe" for instance. But any time I add a model like Genesis 2 3 or 8. No clothes, hair etc. It sticks at 33% rendering image.
I waited 10 minutes. Can anyone send a screen shot of their bridge settings? And what items they are using?

Also, is it internet speed dependant? I have normal cable internet. 60 mps download. 5 mbs upload.

    This is just frigin frustrating.

I’ve seen uploads take up to and over an hour.. it is uploading but it does seem to take its time... and yea, it might appear 'stuck'.. but if the progress bar is there, it's doing something. If you have access to the server you can view the command line and see the data transfer in action.

Also worth noting that 5mb/s upload is approx 0.625 MB/s so yea, it's going to be slow going to transfer the scene data to the server.. try something really simple to begin with, and you can at least make sure it works right the way through.
