Old Poser Hair in Daz Studio 4.9
in The Commons
Hi all!
I tried using an old Hair figure from Poser in Daz Studio today (HR045 by Ali3d: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/hr-045/72767 ) and it didn't work: the morphs to make the tail bend cause it to distort in very weird ways instead of making it bend, twist or move front to back. Yet I got the idea of using this hair figure on a G3 figure because I saw a render with that combination somewhere. So does any of you know how to make these older hair figures work in Daz Studio 4.9?
Thanks a lot,
Me

I have that hair and use it often. The trick is never autofit it. Just load, then move into position and parent it to the head. If you need a snugger fit, add a smoothing modifier with collision set to your figure and you are good.
Older poser stuff uses parametric joints rather than weight mapping.
Studio can convert that to weight mapping, but the results suck.
Autofit always converts the target to a weight mapping, which usually destroys the target figure's original rigging, if any. While there are trick to get around the loss of rigging, you have to change the figure to weight mapping
So, basically, any old poser stuff, be it hair or clothing, risks getting fairly messed up by autofit, especially if your try to conserve special bones.
Thanks for the replies! But the thing is... Ever since I updated to Daz Studio 4.9 (the sub version that is required to use G8) The hair loads up in a "defective state" by default. I don't have to autofit to "brake" it. If I load it into an empty scene, just as is, it won't bend or morph either...
Thanks for your advice!!!

kozabura hair?
Hi! No.. Ali3D Hair. HR045. Still one of the best ponytail models out there, but something is broken in mine...
As you can see it works fine for me in 4.9.2.70 (not the latest though). Unlike most other hair you actually have to select the tail and not the head for the morphs to show. Might try reinstalling it.
You are a genius sir!!! Or I am very stupid... Also a likely possibility!!!
Thanks a thousand!!!
