Please Help with Iray Render settings

Hello y'all,

Due to a crash or maybe a manip on my part, it olooks like the Iray Render are set for very fast renders and low quality.

How can I restore that to a viable quality ?

Thanks

Define "viable quality". You could always just reset the setting to default by clicking on the button.

I always set my render time to zero and just tweak the max samples (1000 for test, 5000 for quick, 15000 for quality) and convergence ratio (95 for test and quick, 99 for quality) settings. I just cancel the render if I think it already looks acceptable. If the render looks terrible even with a high value for those two settings, I set render quality to at least 5 and then redo the render.

On the Render Settings tab, there's a very special button, "Defaults", that restores the settings back to normal.

  • Yes, I think the trouble was, as Eagle99 pointed out, that I had the "Render Quality" to On, so it stopped fast and the result was grainy. Precisely because of the default settings.

I note your proposed resolution y3kman, and will try those out. wink

    Thanks guys !

Note that the Default button restores to Iray default, which is different to the default settings when you start DS. I usually prefer the DS default so I've created a preset for that which I use instead.

These are my render settings (see attached) which I saved as a preset and added them to my Script Menu so they are always available. I also saved it as my default scene and that loads with Studio when it starts and also when starting a new render or clearing the scene.

I always determine how long an image will render by setting the Max Samples. I turn Quality Off altogether. One less thing for the algorithm to test.

I didn't look at Fishtales settings, but I also have a default scene that loads at startup and when I start a new scene. I really like the idea of a one-click reset in my Scrpt Menu, so I'll have to set that up. (It amazes me how many of the HDRIs I have change more than the environment.)
