What are PCI and how does it effect Daz? I am working on picking a motherboard now that I know what GPU I want. I saw people mentioning PCI and while I don't really understand it I got the impression it was important. In "I'm a moron when it comes to tech' speak what are PCI slots, and what size/number do I need for Daz and moderate gaming?

Any new system should have what you want.
But what you are looking for in something new is PCI-e or PCIe (PCI Express). PCI-e 3.0 x16. That's short for revision 3 (latest) and x16 means 16 lanes.
That's for the video card. There will also be x8, x4, x1. Usually when you plug two in, both drop to x8, or you'll use them for other peripherals (even though the slot is longer, you can plug shorter PCIe cards in them).
PCI slots are where the various add-on cards are installed to. For 99% of the users out there, the only ones that matter are PCIX (or PCI Express) slots. There are two physical styles, one that is about 2 inches long (and almost never used by the average computer user) and one that is significantly longer than that. The big one is the one you want, and they mostly come in ratings of x8 and x16 these days. The higher the X#, the more bandwith they can push through. Most motherboards currently on the market come with the primary slot at x16, that's where the video card will go.
Thanks! I am trying to see if building one is possible (affordable since I have to hire the person to build it.) so I didn't want to accidentally get the wrong one if the PCI thing was something I could screw up
you might check out www.reddit.com/r/buildapc, it's a forum dedicated to helping people build PCs, there are a lot of great tutorials and people that enjoy helping new pc builders to figure out what parts they need
Ty I will definitely give that a look. I will probably post a build list on this forum when I decide on something because I don't know how familiar they are with what is needed to make sure Daz works well and I know some people here build their own.
