Carrara One Minute Animation: "Lafitte: Galveston's Pirate Patriot"

"Lafitte - Galveston's Pirate Patriot" was done in Carrara using 3D elements from Renderosity and DAZ3D.   Many of the effects were done with Particle Illusion, and of course Photoshop is always in there somewhere.  It was my entry in Renderosity's Animation Contest in Aug./Sept 2017.  I live near Galveston, so the inspiration was the legends of Lafitte that are part of the history.  Jean Lafitte (c. 1780 – c. 1823) was a French pirate and privateer in the Gulf of Mexico in the early 19th century.   The Lafittes became spies for the Spanish during the Mexican War of Independence and moved to Galveston Island, Texas, where they developed a pirate colony they called Campeche.  In return for a legal pardon for smuggling, Lafitte and his comrades helped General Andrew Jackson defend New Orleans against the British in the final battle of the War of 1812.

So educational.  This is fantastic.  My favorite part?  "The British party into the night."

Just so happy to see you posting.  Hope everything is going as well as possible after the hurricane flooding.  Looking forward to an Astros/Nationals world series.

Thanks, Diomede.  More educational was a talk at my nearby public library by a lady from the Lafitte Society in Galveston (link below).  Many people are unaware of Texas' seagoing history ... I even had an East coast lady ask me, during a flight delay at a Midwestern airport, "You mentioned you're a sailor, where can you sail in Texas?"  (Texas has 370 miles of coastline, or 3,400 miles if you count all the inlets like Galveston Bay.)  And yes, the drainage here in Deer Park is apparently pretty good, the water never got close to the house.  Unlike large parts of Houston and other nearby towns.

I'll go for that World Series.  Many Astro fans are kind of cynical, given the history, but they did seem to make a pretty good trade recently.  Since the 31August trade, ex-Tiger Justin Verlander is 4-0 for the Astros, with a 0.64 ERA.  That's gotta help.
