Easy Shape Master or Growing Up ?

Everything is in the title : the Shape Master covers from young to old age. So, does Growing Up really bring a lot more to the ages it covers ?

...Shape Master looks more like a utility to fine tune various body shapes but seems to do little in the way of age adjustment like Growing Up does. Now I could see the two working together very well

They do work together very well. Can't have all those people with the same height and proportions.

They cover different age ranges, and one has requirements while the other does not. Since growing up has no requirements, to me it seems like more time was taken in sculpting the morphs.

While I do like the age morph in shape master, it only seems to apply to the face.

I'd probably go with growing up since it'll may be a requirement of future figures (e.g., Molly). And Zev0 will likely release an aging product for G8F/M that includes body and face.

Growing Up all the way, ZeV0's products are amazing and a must for each generation, I've purchased all of the growing up sets from Genesis to Genesis 3, and this new one is in my cart, and his aging morphs are fantastic as well as others are amazing as well, I haven't purchased easy shape master so cannot comment on that product but I'd definitely recomemd ZeV0 all the way.

  • Ok, you guys make a good point in favour of ZeV0's (or getting both). smiley Just to be clear though :

What do you mean age adjustment ? From what I see it covers a wider period, you mean maybe that it's less precise (like pre-teen, then teen, and not 5, 6, 7 etc years old) ?

Which one allows to vary the proportions ? SM right ?

Different age ranges, but SM seems to cover more. Requirements, I already have Genesis 8 Female Body Morphs and Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs so it isn't a question for me. Now, you think it's a proof of quality, noted.
Not sure if SM's age morph applies only to the face : "Younger Shape ; Older Shape". But GU does seem to have more.

Is it useful to get Molly when you already can make your own with GU ?

I think I won't pass that promo now. Hate you all ! laughdevil

No offense to the vendor of Shape Master, but Zev0s morphs have much more thought behind them as to what real details look like. I dunno if it was the promos of Shape Master, but the shapes looked more "doughy" for want of a better word. I've used Zev0s for three generations now and they're awesome :).

Shape Master stretches the body too much.

  • Growing Up and then hopefully Zev0's age morphs for the full range. Easy Shape Master is presets for existing DAZ morphs. I think there might be a smoothing morph also for the female. But that is the reason it really only targets the face for age changing.

  • I have and like them both.

Artists usually measure the human body relative to its head size.  I think Growing Up respects those kind of measurements very accurately, while Shape Master just stretches the body like a Stretch Armstrong toy.

...I remember Stretch Armstrong. Anyway yes, Growing Up does observe proportions not only of the head, but torso and limbs more accurately. There are also ibdividual controls dor head propagation, posture, body proprtioning, and weight. I remenber in the Gen4 days having to proportion individual limbs as well as the torso regions, and head. A real tedious process as kids are not just "mini adults"
  • I would love to weigh in on this discussion because I have been working exclusively on this sort of thing ever since I started using Daz Studio. I don't own Easy Shape Master so I can't speak exactly on how it works but judging from the promo pages I suspect that it doesn't have as extensive a tool set as does Zev0. I do own Zev0 grow up morphs as well as Zev0 shaping morphs and in my opinion you really need both to create realistic young characters. The grow-up morphs do a fine job at reducing a character proportionally to the right size but it really requires more fine tuning to get everything exactly right. Females, typically are way to busty and wide in both the hips and thighs to pass for lets say young teenagers so the shaping morphs then have to be used to reduce those specific areas. In the case of males, they are way to muscular and big, it all needs to be scaled down.

One final point that really needs to be made is even with all that, not all characters seem to be created equally. By that, I mean I have purchased several character sets for Genesis 3 (because I haven't moved up to G8 yet and there isn't as much content available yet) and I have found that even when you take an adult character and simply use the youth morph to scale it down, sometimes it works well and other times it doesn't. I still don't understand why this is true. For instance, Sapphire for for V7, scaled down perfectly no problem, just a little reduction in the hips and thighs. However, when I tried the same technique with FWSA Dayanara it didn't go as well. The head didn't look right and I eventually just ended up slapping her textures onto tween Julie 7 and it came out much better. I wish the process was easier, however it has come a long way since 2005 when I first tried doing it. So in my opinion it all just depends. Know what your goals are and then pick the best tools for making it work. Good luck!

...I usually do the fine tuning with various merchant resoruce morph and shaping kits.  Unfortunately Easy Shape Master is useless for me as I am still working with G3 (cannot justify sinking a lot of funds from my extremely tight income on an entirely new figure line to make it useful for my needs particularly as I am saving up for system upgrades that are a higher priority right now).
