Look at cam... Why is it so hard?

I've tried several methods now

1. Point eyes at cam = Looks above the camera

2. Make null and parent it to camera and Z translate the null further away = Looks even more above the camera. Now I could translate the null at the Y axis but I want a way to automatically look at the camera.

I even tried some scripts but they all failed

I'm coming from XNALara where you just click "look at cam" and it always looks at the cam and its very easy, in DAZ its so hard. What am I doing wrong?

It always seemed to work for me.  I do it manually now, as if you have a freshly loaded scene you need to move the camera before the eyes look at the camera.  Doesn't work with batch rendering.

Set the Universal Tool to Local coordinates, then you have the arrows extending from the eyes relative to the eye.  View from your desired camera, and then adjust until it's perfect or close enough.

I'm a lazy bum and just use mcasual's stare at cam script. The eyes look fine after using the script.

  • I don't have any problem.  Seems OK to me.  I open the "Scene" tab and select both eyes.  Then open the "Parameters" tab and select select both "Left Eye", and "Right Eye", then open the "Point At" menu and choose the correct camera and "Apply".  HOWEVER, there is one final step.  I usually have to jiggle the camera ball in the viewport a little bit to get the eyes to snap toward the camera.

I use a script from this set on ShareCG. It does a good job of creating a decent pose. Lately, I've been using it in combination with mcjTortionSpreader which helps spread the pose over the rest of the figure.

It's been a while since I used the feature, yea maybe you need to move the camera first.  Definitely have to opening a scene.  You can just move it whereever then undo - the eyes still follow the camera.

Not sure why you're having trouble. These images all have the eyes "point at camera"

Another vote for SGApp's posing script:

    http://www.sharecg.com/v/76667/browse/8/Script/Updated-Daz-Studio-Posing-Scripts-now-for-G3F

    It just works.

Esemwy's additional suggestion of  this script:

    intrigues me...

Have you taken a look at "Look At Me II" by Riversoft Art https://www.daz3d.com/look-at-me-ii-pose-control

I go with "Yeah it is super hard". Not just looking into the camera, it is hard to make your character focus on any point, wher you exactley want to.
My most common problem is, when the eyes look perfect in preview, but not correct in the render.

The problem is people usually just click on the left eye and set it to follow camera then do the same with the right eye. Why is that wrong? Well, in real life your eyes are not going to both look at the center of the camera. So, the best solution is to create two empties, about the same distance apart as the eys, inside a small rectangle and then set each eye to follow the appropriate empty. Now when you move your rectangle around the eyes will follow but will still look natural because your character is not going all corss eyed trying to focus both eyes on a single point.
