Who knows why Creation Machine is rendering black?

It's this product.

https://www.daz3d.com/creation-machine

1) I see no iray in the name....ugh oh.

2) Camera is not in an object

3) Not Rendering Dome or Floor.

4) Removing background/walls makes the glowing objects black (as opposed to neon glows) but the figures look great....

5) Trying it in 3Delight to see what happens....

---------------------- it's rendering and is useable, but dang it.

Was trying to find which element was the dome blocking everything- or why the interior lights aren't working.

I wish I had it so I could give you expert advice, but if you don't mind some fumbling, here's what I'd try:

Select all surfaces and then hold down Ctrl as you double-click on the Iray Uber Shader. In the dialog that pops up, tell it to Ignore (not replace) texture maps.

Click on the glowy globe's outermost surface (I say that in case it is constructed of multiple shells) and click on the base color's texture map to find out what its name is. Then go into the surface's Emission section and choose the same texture there. Make sure the emission color is white so the texture won't be darkened by it, set the color temperature to 10,000 because of the emitted light's bluish cast, and really crank up the luminosity. I'd start out with 30,000 kc<whatever>s and see what appears in the render.

    That's an awesome experiment.

I can't take losing momentum. I'm going to render the backdrop in 3Delight and the foreground items in iray and combine them later.

  • Unless you are going to redo the lights that one pretty much has to be done in 3Delight.  On a brighter note though, it's a pretty quick render these days.  I've used that one extensively in some of my recent comics.  You can gvet some great camera angles with it.  The interior lights aren't working in Iray because they are not Iray lights.

I figured that. Thanks for the heads up.

This is one of those sets I'd love to see auto-updated (or even re-released with some better refinements) for modern Iray standard. There are a number of sets I have from the 3Delight era which were great ideas, but just aren't useable for using with Iray.

The lights are to help with the consol controls, you can make them emmissive surfaces using the Uber Iray shader (same with the sphere data etc) and then you will get light from them. I loaded the machine, applied the Iray shader to the consols and the sphere etc used the emmissive channel in the surfaces tab and placed some point lights about 8 towards the wall with the luminance pretty high all took about 5 minutes. The point lights ned better placing and more time but it gives an idea of how it can look in Iray with a bit of tweaking.

I only let it render for a few minutes it needs a lot longer.
