Can't drag certain nodes within Scene pane; can't ungroup

There is a group consisting of several nodes, none of which I'm able to drag out of the group. And if I delete a particular node, it removes all of the others. Other nodes I've added outside this group behave normally. Any clue?

    Are you sure it's a group of nodes, not a figure with bones?

    Is there a way to tell? This is the heirarchy in the Scene pane:

    The icon next to the name tells you what kind of node it is - a bone icon is a bone (e.g. base), the three cubes is a figure (e.g. Hall_Cubby_Hole) - how the stacked cubes are broken up reflects the rigging system, parametric vs. weight-mapped.
