Loved the outfit so kinda insta-bought...except afterwards I realized that it was for G8F (I know--my oversight!), and I'm still primarily working with G3F. Followed SickleYield's tutorial (http://sickleyield.deviantart.com/journal/Tutorial-Convert-Clothing-G3-to-G8-G8-to-G3-686682065), but the clothing is not staying where it needs to when I pose my G3F. Tried searching the forum for answers, but could not find anything. Anyone able to share advice, other tutorials, threads, etc. that may help? Would love to use the outfit on G3F.

Thanks in advance!

Did you forget to "fit To" G3F (one of the last steps)? If you didn't, perhaps Parenting to G3F will work. Other than that I'm out of ideas,

Had already tried both. "Fit to" deformed the clothing. Parenting did nothing, either. Thanks for trying to help, though!

  • To clarify re what happens with the "fit to," no matter how I pose G3F to start, the sleeves will be 45 degrees under the arms, and the pants slightly above each leg.

This is down to the limits of doing this transfer method with a pose.

You might try using Redz's clones tutorial (see my sig) to make a G8 clone for Genesis 3. Then you should be able to autofit as normal.

What SY's method is trying to do is make sre the final figure item retains all of its helper morphs, which Autofit can sometimes kill. The down side of it is that you have to get the figures lined up pretty exactly.

So if you want to do that (it's not a bad idea) try setting G3 to this pose, rather than using SY's guidance on seting 4 rotations. Degrees of accuracy here. SY's numbers are "good enough for government work." This pose is a lot closer to true.

But that doesn't sound like the root cause of your issue. THIS is probably the point where things go wrong. "In the Scene tab, Left-click on Genesis 3 Female.  Hold down shift and left-click on your clothing item, so both are selected, but Genesis 8 is selected FIRST.  The order matters."

That's a typo. It should read, "In the Scene tab, Left-click on Genesis 3 Female.  Hold down CTRL and left-click on your clothing item, so both are selected, but Genesis 3 is selected FIRST.  The order matters."

You can see where this wold cause a problem. Transfer rigging is important for getting the arms and legs to line up. If you skipped this step, or selected Genesis 8 per the typo, then you didn't actually change the clothing item's rigging. It's still set to G8's rigging, which is about 46 degrees and 6.1 degreess off. So it's really important to get this bit right. Select Genesis 3 first, then select the clothing, then transfer rigging.

As for the difference between shift clicking and Ctrl clicking, if all you have in the scene is G3 and one clothing item, it doesn't matter, but if you have more than 2 things in the scene, shift click selects everything between the first item and the second in the scene tab. You don't want that. Transfer riggin will fail. Not that I think that's what happened, because you'd get a nag screen telling you you had too many selections, but it's a detail that could throw you off.

  • Thanks, SB. Will take a look at the cloning tutorial.

As for the typo, I did select G3F rather than G8F; still, the problem persisted.

    Again, thank you!

Did you try posing your figure first and then trying to fit the clothing?  Sometimes this will work.  Not always but sometimes.

  • Singular Blues - Thank you SO much. The cloning method worked well; only needed some minor adjustments. Anyone reading, please note that the tutorial pdf does have a typo as well--Step 19 should be "Delete Genesis 8 Female" instead of "Delete Genesis 2 Female."

Also, when autofitting, the clothes worked a lot better when I adjusted G3F to the G8F pose first. Otherwise, the armpit area of the tunic got distorted.
