Iray doesn't seem to use my GPU

Dear Daz-users!

I know there are a lot of posts about similar issues but I've found nothing that adresses my problem entirely.

I recently bought an Nvidea gtx 1060 6gb to use with iray. I go to render settings and mark both cpu and gpu and hit render. It then renders at the exact same speed as with my old gtx 570... I go there again and uncheck the cpu so it should only use my new 1060. It starts rendering and after about 5 seconds it's "finished", but nothing is rendered and it's just the empty grayish square pattern as unrendered.

Has anyone had this problem? It shouldn't be a memory issue and the drivers are up to date. I think that maybe my old gtx 570 never worked either and I just assumed it was too slow.

I'm sorry if there already is another post on exactly this issue but as far as I can tell there is none. I appreciate the help very much!

  • Can you render a simple primitive (Create>New Primitive, set it to sphere or cube) in an othrwise empty scene? After you try rendering open the log file (Help>Troubleshooting>View Log), scroll to the end, and then look back until you find the beginning of the render process: paste that block of text here.

You mean like this? Took all of what was rendered today. "Cannot render: found no usable devices" sounds nasty...

Thank you Richard for the quick reply!

Which version of Daz Studio are you using? - Pascal cards only work in 4.9 - (4.8 will give the no usable devices message)

Have you updated your Nvidia Drivers (The latest version I use is 384.74)

  • Ok I solved it by installing the beta of the new DAZ version and updating the NVIDEA driver. Don't know which one of those tthat solved it? Probably both.

Thank you both for the help!
