How to do a CUSTOM render

Referring to the attached image, how do I render only the red area? I know how to render the active viewport but when I go into 'custom', how do I calculate the numbers so I render only the characters and not include the empty space on top and on the bottom?

Thanks in advance

You need to use a camera.

Either select one if loaded, or click on the little camera icon (numbers 1 and 2); change perspective (1) to the camera, or load a camera and then change to that.

The second image shows the options for creating a camera; default can be changed to one of the other options; choose the one below default, and it will set the camera to what you are looking at.

You need to click on the Camera Tab (3) (first select if it isn't (4)).

(Useful info, but a lot of it: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/chapters/cameras_and_views/start There is also a quick start pdf available from the same link, which runs one through a tutorial.)

You need lights to render, so whilst you can use the Headlamp, it often produces poor results, but at least you know everything works if you leave it on at first; but turn it off is better (5)

Render settings (6), allow you to change the dimensions of the view area (viewport); Pixel Size is used to adjust the size and aspect ratio (which is part of what you want to do) and you can constrain proportions. Each Camera can have its own local Dimensions that overrides this (shown in 5 Dimensions).

Ctrl R starts a render, or the icon to the right of the icon in 6 can be clicked.

  • I'm not sure why you need a camea per se, though if you don't use one the viewpoint will not be saved. The main thing is to turn off Constrain Proportion in Render Settings before trying to set your size  -it will help to see what is happening if you have the Aspect frame enabled in the viewport options menu, the lined button in the top-right corner.
