DIM install/reset up question

I had the DIM beta on my HD & it had crashed but the /libraries/runtimes were still setup on my externals.I reinstalled the DIM using the 1 from my Product Library but now for some reason the DIM doesn't detect what was installed by the beta 1 even though all the DIM files are still in the library folders. How do I get this fixed so that I don't mess it up by installing same things over & messing it up by putting stuff in wrong spots?

DIM determines what is already installed by looking at what's in the ManifestFiles folder -- was anything recoverable from the crashed hard drive?

  • Haven't been able to get it to a shop yet for it to be checked.

  • Is there a way I can check the files easier on the install manger files that are still in my existing libraries to give me an idea what I have in there so can try to re-set em up if needed?

Do you install everything to the same content folder?

  • I have different DIM folders set up according to type of file. Some are easy to figure out but some I forget where I had them at.

Clarification please? What do you mean buy "type of file"? Everything should be installed into the sale library and then you create custom categories to separate it out as you wish. I'm not getting it what that is needed. I could however be confusing what you are doing which is why I wanted clarification.

If you can't recover the ManifestFiles folder, you can look in the Runtime:Support folder for each of your content folders -- as long as the CMS was running when DIM installed a product, there will be a .dsx file there for the product (if the product doesn't come with metadata, DIM will create a .dsx file with bare-bones metadata (what files are associated with the product)).  That would tell you what products were installed to that location.  You could then reinstall those products with DIM, then in DIM go to Settings > Installation, right-click on the content location, and choose "Fix Installed File Registry" -- that corrects DIMs record of what files were already there when DIM installed them, so that DIM can update or uninstall them correctly.
