I've had a lot of requests for a French quarter of New Orleans..maybe one day,

...used to live there, would love to see that.

Crikey as always, this is fantastic.

So with all these new lovely sets and props we've seen in the past couple years, will there be another Stonemason Challenge someday?

  • Yet another Stonemason set on my list!

As long as your in an Italian state of mind...Here's a couple to ponder, "The Amalfi Coast" and maybe "The Streets of Ancient Pompeii."  It would really be cool to see how you would reconstruct Pompeii.

Also, I know you've done the Mediterranean already, but a really nice update might be, "The Streets of Oia.(Santorini)."  I was there two years ago...and, I really want to go back.

    Great work as always!

If you need more work;-) ..another suggestion: York. It has some gorgeous medieval streets (not just The Shambles).

Another excellent idea. I visited York once and I really wish I had the time to repeat the experience.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

Wow - such splendor! Don't have superlatives enough.

Seriously, Stonemanson, do you sleep! ;-)

And can one hope for The Streets of Stockholm and ditto Santorini one day?

York is lovely, so many different things to see. The Shambles is great,  and I think would make a super model.   The Railway Mueum was always the favourite of my eldest son.

I'd love to see somewhere in Barcelona. The architecture there is wild.

In York,  be careful of hotels that claim to have a car park.  When I went there, the hotel car park turned out to be a converted stables.  Fortunately, I was driving a one litre Austin Metro at the time, so it easily fitted into a tight corner where all the excutive tanks could not venture! To add insult to injury, the hotel supplied me with the Financial Times, instead of the requested copy of The Times. I have never forgiven them for this.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

Stefan, how do you get your references? Do you actually visit these places?

Thank you very much for a great scene again Stefan!

Venice renders great in Octane (for DAZ Studio), but, like earlier sets, some joint-editor adjustment was necessary.

This time the tree-leaves didn't align with the trunk and branches. Nothing dramatic, but could you please set the origin of (nested) instances so that they are inserted correctly?

    Thanks : )

    Cheers!

    Erik

I'm glad I already did the Iray conversion for the Gondola for the Tuscany set and Belladonna poses by Muscleman. laugh

I'm also in for a "French Quarter set of New Orleans", since I know it from Anne Rice' vampire chronicles! cool

...actually hung out there when I lived on New Orleans. Of course that was some 40 years ago and I'm sure a lot has changed since then. Hopefully it will include Jackson Square.

Can you imagine a 3D model of Sagrada Família?!!

That looks very nice.  It would be great if that was included.

Niiiice!  And now with the cameras and atmos/lights included it is easily a purchase-on-sight instead of wishlist-and-think-it-over!  Thanks so much for including the cameras and stuff. Makes ALL the difference!

I third the New Orleans French Quarter Request.

The French Quarter set of New Orleans would be a good idea, especially as global warming will some day in near future suck it down the ocean waves. So a 3D version might well be the only suviving part. Except if Disney builts it's own version fist ...

    beautiful

and without that smell from the canals!

there was no smell in Fall when we were  there, but it sure looked exactly like (the sunset pictures perfectly catch the ambience) the renders shown here. just amazing. i guess I can just stay home and see the whole world thru Stefan's creations ... would save a lot of money too. lucky to have stonemason in our corner here at DAZ. now please something from japan ... venice is perfected, as are the urban settings. nobody is going to surpass the wild western town, and scifi is ... well it's never enough, so more of that is also OK ... off to see the movie Valarian.

Hurricane Katrina showed us just how vulnerable we are, and areas around Lake Ponchartrain flooded even with the remnants of Rita this year.   I would love to see a model of O'Flaherty's Irish Channel pub.   The drop in tourism after Katrina did them in.

...used to hang out at Pat O'Briens on St. Peter St (usually at the courtyard bar) right next to Preservation Hall, as well as Felix's Oyster bar.

So are there still "Takee Outies" there (used to be one on Bourbon St.)?

When I lived there we only had the St Charles' Streetcar.  Now I see there's a Canal St and Riverfront line.

Sadly,  the Takee Outies are all gone.  I loved the shrimp tempura on a stick.  Pat's and Felix's are still there.   Kolb's restaurant is gone though.

The street car along riverfront shuttles people from the Riverwalk shopping mall (now reopened again, a cargo ship hit it) and the big parking lots, to near the ferry landing near Canal.   The best new area is the World War II Museum, which started as the D-Day Museum.  It  just keeps growing, and it is a must-see.  I don't get down there very often nowadays (I live in Baton Rouge).   Hoping to spend a day wandering around in the quarter when the weather cools off.  : )

Love to see some models from there.  There is a Jackson Square set at another site, for VUE, but it does not look very detailed, so I have not purchased it.  Both French Quarter and Paris models, current and turn of the century, (Stonemason quality) would be great for one of my graphic novel projects.

I was in NOLA for Bouchercon last year. My hotel was just outside the French Quarter (which I only saw much of on the airport shuttle on the way home), There were a number of buildings standing, but empty, just off Canal Street. I suspect that they may be ones which developed toxic mold which the owner can't afford to mitigate. Handsome buildings. But unused.

...bugger those were great to stop at after a night (or for myself an early  morning as I worked late shift) in the quarter.  A couple sticks of chicken or shrimp was the "bomb".

My best memories of the waterfront was sitting at Cafe Du Monde writing music while sipping coffee and noshing on Biegnets. Almost made me feel like a charter member of "Les Six".
