Which UV set does Leo7 use?
in The Commons
Hi,
I intend to purchase the Leo 7 offers and to use other Genesis3 skin textures on the Leo7 character, if possible.
Is it possible?
Useful to purchase Leo 7 ?

He has his own UV set, but you can use and G3M texture on his morph
Which means that if you want to use Leo's skin on anyone else you have to either aply his UV or jump through hoops with a transfer utility.
I've noticed that very few of the characters sold as "for <name>7" actually use the new custom UV mapping — most of them just use the base male or base female UVs. It was the other way round with earlier Genesis and Genesis2 characters, perhaps as a holdover from the previous generations (where there was no single base figure).
The whole business of UV maps seems to hit both ends of the scale depending on what year you are thinking of.
Generation 3 had some degree of differences between what UV went on what figures, but it wasn't at a 1:1 ratio. Quite a lot of the UVs could be shared. I think that probably applied to gen2 as well. With gen4 there seemed to be only three UV Maps, V4, M4, and K4. And DAZ made a concerted effort to have it that way.
With Genesis, suddenly just about each new character base got its own proprietary UV, and the vendors played along for most of the year and a half that Genesis was the current figure under development. There really weren't *that* many individual character bases for Genesis, and some of them were things like monsters, which *needed* their own UVs. Genesis also still supported M4, K4, and V4's UVs as well. You could use just about any skin on it.
It wasn't until some distance into G2's development cycle that vendors gradually stopped building their skins to the proprietary UVs. There were just too many of them. Some of them defaulted to V6's UV (for females), but most used G2F's. And once G3 started releasing 2 bases a month, everyone seemsed to throw up their hands and default to the base G3 male or female UV.
But the individual character bases still have these basically unsupported UVs for their original skins. Which means that those skins are not likely to transfer to newer figures without jumping through hoops.
Why DAZ went in that direction with the Genesis series is a complete mystery to me. It obviously isn't necessary, given that they managed to just about completely dispense with it all the way back in gen4.
