Is there such thing as animated skydomes?
in The Commons
I mean as in animated clouds. I'm interested in HDRI domes because of it's lighting features but I'm not fond of static clouds. Can an animated file be used instead?

Oh, I just read what I wrote
. Animated HDRI domes mean the HDRI (8 or 16K) file must be animated.... right? Please say no.
you could stick a sphere or dome mapped with clouds and transparency between the HDRi and the scene
then move it
yes there are animated HDRi, I use them in Carrara but I am unsure if it's possible in DAZ studio with the iray dome using an amimated textures plugin.
Carrara supports image series and avi on backgrounds and textures DAZ studio needs a script either in store or by Casual.
Once your render is done, you can then create a plotagraph out of it and animate your clouds. You can check this out: https://www.lynda.com/Photoshop-tutorials/Creating-Cinemagraphs-Plotagraphs/585267-2.html
Just a suggestion.
you could rotate the dome slightly with each frame - the clouds would be stiff, but moving.
Add realism by having a dome of just clouds slightly smaller than the sky dome and rotate at a different speed.
I use static Iray & 3DL clouds and keyframe animate them. But HDRi back ground and skydomes do not animate in Daz studio in neither Iray or 3DL . you actual have to move the obj at focus to make the HDRi sky to look like its moving in the POV in animation. . Daz does not offer a timeline for HDRi images to be animated, So you either have to render one image at a time and put them together in a film editor to animated the HDRi image by moving the object instead.. as far as the clouds go I just use static clouds and animate them by hand for great effects stonemason has some great iray &3dl clouds.
I am currently rendering a iray movie out using HDRi and iray clouds for a flight scene for a KG film but its along way from ready yet..
here is an examples of static clouds being hand animated in this film though this is using UE2 light domes with 3dl rendering .
and also if asking in general if there is such a thing as animated skydomes, yes
DAZ studio no
But in Bryce as well as Carrara and also Vue indeed there are inbuilt systems
I shall beat Chohole to it and link this video I found
Very cool!
A go pro or any recording device left out for several hours with or without fish eye lens will create this result. Use as a background layer in AE or any program that allows time frames. The 2nd ground image layered above can remain still or be animated in parts or full. It's a cool effect. The only thing is you have to increase frames per second on the sky (like speed painting or fast forward).
Thanks guys for the input, but... I only want skydome for the HDRI lighting possiblities. If I just use a regular ole' animated video in my dome, doesn't that defeat my purpose? Or am I getting it wrong?
volumetric clouds!
well a moot point as in DAZ studio you cannot use a video
and yes it does do image based lighting in Carrara and Poser at least where I have used them, 360 spherical renders as avi (does not have to be high dynamic range)
