1060's won't work with iray?

Hey guys.

I purchased 4x 1060's for mining ethereum and doing some 3d work as well. Meanwhile I am waiting for my pci-e risers to arrive, I have 2 of the cards installed in the system giving me a total of 12GB of VRAM to work with.

I tried to render a scene and IRAY didn't use any of my 1060's.. Since I don't know how to check for scene memory size I continued by loading a new empty scene and trying to render a single figure in dome and scene enviroment setting with a camera. Still nada.

Updated Daz Studio, still the same.

Installed  Daz Studio Beta, still nothing.

I don't know what else to do, Tried to search for a solution in searching engines but all I get are those old topics of pascal in iray yada yada.. 

I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed.

    Several points:

    • The VRAM for each card does not add up in Iray.  Think of each card as a self contained computer where the full scene is loaded into the VRAM for each card. With 4 GTX 1060 cards, you can still only render a 6GB scene using GPUs
    • Make sure that you are using the GPU drivers downloaded from Nvidia.  The ones installed by windows update do not support Iray or OpenGL.  Microsoft wants you to live in a Direct3D world.
    • The current versions of Daz Studio (all versions of 4.9.x) support Pascal architecture in Iray.

    • From what I know thats what SLI in gaming does. I previously had 2x 970 GTX each with 3.5GB and was able to render scenes with at least 2 people in an interior enviroment with at least one light source without comprimizing quality. So as far as I know VRAM does add up otherwise I wouldn't be able to render such scenes with my gpu's.
    • As I said above: I have the latest drivers downloaded through geforce experience.
    • Already tried latest stable version and beta version.

    I don't know what could be the problem, as I have a 1060 in my laptop and the latest drivers and Iray works fine.

    Ariel, vram doesn't work that way for Iray rendering, sorry.

    The entire scene has to fit on each card used.

    The SLI argument is pointless anyways...  The GTX 1060 does not have the plug for anSLI bridge.

    • Have you tried with just one GTX 1060 installed in your system?
    • Have you checked your motherboard specs and made sure that both slots you are using are wired for at least 8x?
    • Is your current power supply strong enough to support 2 gaming video cards? (Not just overal watts, do the 12v rails have enough amps for 2 cards?)
    • Do both cards show in your device manager and Nvidia control pannel, and do they each output video when connected to a monitor?
    • Do both cards show on your Iray device list?

    1. Refer to the Troubleshootibng Log for pointers about why the render is failing in the 1060s. For simplifying your troubleshooting, use only a single 1060 for the test render.

    2. Download and install a GPU monitor program such as GPU-Z. It will tell you precisely how much VRAM is being used in the render, if any.

    I didn't try with one card yet but by the log file it looks like it won't really fix it but yet i have no idea why this is happenning. I have the latest drivers from nvidia.

    How many Watts is your power supply, and how old is it?

    Found the problem! It was the overclocking I used for my mining that created the memory error.

    Setting the cards to default fixed the problem :)

    That's a relief, because earlier today I ordered a GTX 1060 for my PC (hobbyist not pro).  Thanks to this forum, I knew to get the 6GB model and that two fans would be better.
