UPDATED: can't autofit V4, V5, V6 clothes to G8
Transferring G1,2 and 3 skins to the new G8 is working great, but I can`t get G2 and G3 clothes to fit G8 correctly. When I follow a tutorial by Sickleyield, I am able to get G3 stuff to fit, but not when using autofit .... and trying to autofit G2 cloths G8 is completely hopeless. Any help on transferring G2 clothes (got a lot of those) to G8 would help.
** UPDATE** :
Here is the process I stumbled upon to add G2 clothes to G8.
No guarantee this will work for everybody, but after lots of trial and error (little sleep and some excellent pointers by others) ... I discovered how to transfer G2 clothes to G8 if autofitting isn't working properly ... not just G2 clothes, but also clothes with their original morphing channels (which can get lost when autofitting). If you want to add G3 clothes to G8, you can go directly to the tutorial that inspired this one, namely Sickleyield's Youtube tutorial here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJk3LLfWq7Y
Because there are similar steps involved in transferring G2 and G3 clothes to G8 (and especially if you are a visual learner), I would definitely recommend watching Sickleyield's tutorial. In either case, it's a must for transferring G3 clothes to G8, but do take note of the fact that what I am showing here has some additional/different steps to make the clothes transfer work with G2 clothes, so be careful.
OK ... here we go. Let's transfer some G2 clothing to G8.
A. First do this:
** download this pose (script): https://www.sharecg.com/v/88527/browse/21/DAZ-Studio/G3G-G8F-pose-adjust-script
** put a copy ("G3F G8F pose adjust") in your script folder
** make another duplicate of the above script, open it with Notepad of something and change all the number 6's and 45's into their opposite value (i.e. if the script reads, -6 then change it to 6, if it says 45 then change it to -45 .... and so on (you'll have to do this 4 times). When finished name this file/pose/script ... "G8F G3 pose adjust". Also add this to your script library.
B. Finally:
(1) load G3 and G8 -- make sure they don't parent to each other when you load them ... and deselect both before going on to ...
(2) add "G8F G3F pose adjust" to the G3 figure (it will go into the same stance as G8). Before going on, make sure G3 is selected in your scene
(3) now load your fav G2 Female clothes (not shoes .... for hints how to do them, watch Sickleyield's tutorial). The autofit dialogue will open because you had G3 selected. For the autofit selection, use "Genesis 2 Female" because the clothes you are fitting are G2 clothes
(4) now select G8 and add "G3F G8F pose adjust" to the G8 figure (it will go into the G3 T-stance) ... then deselect G8
(5) next select your G2 clothes (which are autofitted and parented to G3) and right-click your "Scene" tab ... then choose: Edit: Scene Identification: Preferred Base (click on the far right "..." labeled small box): select "Genesis8: female": Accept: Accept
(6) next select G8 first and then add (by command clicking on the MAC) the G2 clothes (both objects will now be selected).
(7) then right-click your scene tab again and choose: Edit: Rigging: Transfer Rigging
(8) now, select only the G2 clothes and re-fit them from G3 to G8 (Parameters: All: Fit to). No autofit dialogue box should appear. Deselect G2 clothes. Hide G3.
(9) Select G8 and pose G8 (if all has gone well, the G2 clothes will autoflow in tandem).
** To deal with poke-thru (a) add a push modifier (edit: figure: geometry: Add push modifier) ... first using .20 as suggested by Sickleyield ... and/or use the smoothing/collision settings.
** to save the newly rigged cloths as a preset, go to File: Save As: Support Asset: Figure/Prop Assets (in order not to overwrite, assign a name different from the original)
***** Special thanks to Sickelyield (heavily indebted) and L'Adair (always helpful) ****

It's really simple to do, select V8, choose your g2 cloht, the apply the autofit menu dialog appear and you must choose witch figure the cloths was for...then choose into the menu if is a full body or not,a nd play :) easy ans simple :)
not with G2 ... as I said, even with G3 I have to follow sickleyield's tutorial to get clothes right.
Can somebody help me with this?
Are others also having problems using autofit to conform V6/G2 or V7/G3 to the new genesis 8 figure?
I'd really appreciate some help on this.
It should be working with Genesis 2 clothing. I have better luck leaving the type as unspecified.
I'll try that.
I'm waiting patiently for a G8 version of Fit Them All, hopefully that will provide improved support including better high heel fits. :)
It seems that this whole advertising thing about "buy G8 because she is the most backward compatible" is only true with regard to skins, not cloths. G3 was the most backweard compatible in terms of autofitting cloths, but not fitting skins. Now with G8, backward compatibility is fine with skins, but not autofitting with clothes. DAZ has merely reversed the problem, not eliminated both the cloths and skins fit problems. What a joke. Can't the good programmers at DAZ get this right, or is there no money in doing so if we were able to just use old clothes, instead of us having to buy gobs of new clothes because the autfit has not been enabled to properly do it's job. Am I missing something here?
Genesis 3, as shipped, could AutoFit only Genesis 2 clothes for the same sex and Genesis 3 clothes for the opposite sex. Genesis 8 female has several more options.
From my limited experience of almost three years using Daz Studio, I found Auto-fit of older clothing to be more "hit or miss." It's more dependent on the clothing than the auto-fit clone. I've got V4/M4 clothing that fits reasonably well via auto-fit. And one outfit that really ticks me off, because nothing I've tried will get rid of the "V" crotch distortion in the skirt!
That said, have you been following the Morphs from G3 to G8 thread? The latest tutorial from Redz starts by having you create clones for the older figures, with the instructions actually for G2F, step-by-step. These clones are said to be a better fit than those shipped with the Genesis 8 Female Starter Essentials. It's not difficult and not too time consuming...
Unless, of course, you've already done that and are still having issues getting G2 clothing to fit G8F...
Little confused here Richard ... what does "as shipped mean"? Were there improvements later and are you suggesting that if there were, they will be following for G8 some time soon? And (most of all) what does this contribute to solving my problem?
I don't know what the once written/released specs/tolerances were/are for autofitting stuff to G3 compared to G8 ... but I can tell you what I am experiencing now with what I've got in my runtime -- regardless of what stuff "shipped" like when it was released.
What I am seeing is that in order to get G1 or G2 clothes "on" G8, I am having to:
(1) load a G3 and G8 figure,
(2) duplicate on G3 the pose I am using on G8 (so that both overlap as perfectly as possible .... which is no small feat), and then
(3) hide the G3 figure before
(4) autofitting G1 or G2 clothes to G3 .
After this tortuous process, it looks like the clothes are on G8, but actually they are autofitted to the underneath hidden G3 figure.
The important thing here is this: in the procedure I"ve described above, all V4, V5, V6 and V7 clothes (except shoes) are all autofitting nicely to G3 -- something I am not able to do when trying to autofit those clothes to G8. As I had said, that makes G3 far more backward compatible than G8 with regard to clothes.
Again: unless I am missing something, G8 appears to be worthless in terms of autofitting V4, V5, V6 and V7 clothes (although--as mentioned--the Sickleyield tutoriial is a great workaround for solving the problem with V7 clothes and shoes). If I am wrong, please, please somebody correct me with instructions where to go and what to do so that I can make use of my heavily invested (and now useless on G8) V4,5,6,and 7 clothes library.
I haven't been follwoing that thread because it's (I'm guessing) about transferring morphs and I have no need for that yet ... I am just trying to get older clothes on G8, but if you are saying that that thread explicitly reveals how to get older clothes to fit to G8, than I will definitely give it a read =) Thanks!
You wrote: (2) duplicate on G3 the pose I am using on G8 (so that both overlap as perfectly as possible .... which is no small feat)
It seems that you may be unaware of this free G3F to G8F Pose Conversion script. And here is the forum post about it. It works.
I have just this morning been taught how to get G3F skins onto G8F without getting transparent pixels, so I can empathise with your frustration. I have not yet tried to dress her in my sizable non-G8F wardrobe. Keep your spirits up, and don't forget to have fun! Please be nice to Richard Haseltine: He is so valuable to the Daz community. It will all get sorted within a couple of months or so. Cheers!
Every time I try to autofit clothes from previous genesis version daz crashes
Sorry, no, the thread does not explicity reveal how to get older clothes to fit G8. It is about creating character morphs from older characters to use with G8. However, part of the process for creating the morphs is creating the clones. And once you have created the clone, you can use it for auto-fit. So in your case, you'd follow the tutorial through Part 2. And you can do that for characters older than G2, as well. You can even do it for male characters.
Part 1 creates a G8F clone for the older model, which you'll need to do Part 2. And as an added bonus, the clone(s) will allow you to fit G8F clothing to the earlier models; All hit or miss, of course. Now shoes...? I don't even try to fit shoes across generations. I don't need that much stress, for so little reward...
Thanks for the encouragement.
Richard is a jewel ... that's not in question. My no non-sense abbreviated ways of getting to the point doesn't diminsh that in the least. Richard's answers are also short and to the point. I'm sure he appreciates that without taking it the wrong way.
I know about the free script (thanks) and have used it, but it doesn't make a g8 pose fit to g3, which is what I was talking about (can you hear me in my no non-sensical way wondering if you read my post carefully?).
It shouldn't be doing that ...maybe you have another problem (low computational RAM, or who knows). Hope you get it sorted.
The script is in plain text. Make a copy of the file and open it in something like Notepad. There are four entries that modify the base pose. Just negate the values. For example, find "+ 45" and change it to "- 45" (without the quotes, of course.) Same with the + 6 and - 6. Save it with a new name in your scripts folder. And there you go.
so ... if I pose G8, save the pose, apply it to G3, and then use the modified script, then G3 will be in exactly the same pose as G8? That would be awesome.
By "as shipped" I meant the default state, before add-ons such as Wear Them All (which can even more conversion targets than in the base Genesis 8 Female)
that's way awsome ... if the script tip you gave me allows one to make a G8 pose into a duplicate pose in G3, then I'll be totally set. Or maybe that wouldn"t be necessary with the clones?
that's great info .... didn't know that product existed .... am gonna check it out. Thanks!
Shouldn't be an issue. Was working fine with the previous version. It just started with 4.9 and genesis 8 update
Maybe I'm totally missing something here. My understanding is that your not able to auto-fit any clothing for G2F or Genesis to G8/V8? If so, then I'm definitely not having a similar issue. I'm able to auto-fit most G2F and Genesis clothing to G8/V8. there are a few things that don't work well at all, and some require adjusting the collision and/or smoothing parameters (or possibly adding a push modifier), but not really anything different than what I experienced with G3F. The options for auto-fit aren't as "rich" as they are with G3F (i.e. for most clothing items you need to select full body, no options for gloves, pants, etc) but auto fir works as expected for me. if you aren't getting any options, maybe you need to uninstall the G8F essentials and reinstall them?? If I'm way off base here on what your problems are, forgive my stupidity.
Below are a couple of examples with just the default parameters.
G8F (custom character using V8, Elizabeth 8, and several morphs) in Artimis X for Genesis and Orion Hair for Genesis
G8F (custom character using V8, Elizabeth 8, and several morphs) in Soul Hunter for G2F (from Renderosity) and Orion Hair for Genesis
Well .... others have also wondered about this and have suggested solutions (see above)... so it doesn't seem to work for everybody.
Could the problem be the version of DAZ one is using. I am using 4.9.0.63. Perhaps the newest version does the autofitting better, or specifically for G8
That worked like a charm .... thank you SO MUCH!!!!
did you autofit to a posed or unposed G8?
I am also wondering if there is a difference between G8 and V8 as regards the autofitting. I am using G8 (the essentials base figure).
Is it possible that autofitting is working properly on victoria 8, but not the base G8 figure I am using?? Could somebody be so kind and test that?
technically you should be using the latest DS version with genesis 8 as she has issues in earlier versions and this could be one of them
the problem are full-legged pants (or long dresses) and long-armed sleeves. both don't fit properly. your examples don't have full sleevs and I can tell if they have full trousers on, so maybe that's why your results are OK. to correct these problems, the script above is necessary, as well as the tutorial by sickleyield
can't upgrade now cause changing to the current version of DAZ Studio would require installing a new OS in order to make functional the required iray nvidia driver running on the newest version of DAZ Studio
Could be the issue then as I saw in a couple of threads that the latest version is required for genesis 8 which is the main reason i haven't installed her yet.
