DAZ - PLEASE finish off the Ophelia 7 release
DAZ,
I know you are all busy and excited over G8F, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE finish off the Ophelia 7 release with the other part - the HD ADD-ON.
Ophelia is one of the three G3F -7 figures that really, really depends on and needs the HD details, so please don't leave her without the HD Add-on when you've put out all the ones for all the -7 figures that have hardly a single definition line on their bodies. Yes, there's the normal maps, which I immediately used DS Map Transfer on at highest rez settings to convert them to the Genesis 3 Base Female UVs to use them with the G3F base UV texture sets I want to use (I honestly cannot see a pixel's difference in the effect on rendering of using the original normal maps using the Ophelia 7 UV setting or the Map Transfer converted normal maps using the Genesis 3 Base Female UV setting, no matter how close up I render). And for most purposes they are great, and indeed I'd use them in most renders rather than an HD morph for the saving in system resources. But for some renders I will really need the HD morphs rather than the normal maps.
You must already have the HD sculpt on the very sub-divided mesh to have produced the normal maps. I can't think that it will take that long to spawn the HD morph as well. PLEASE don't forget about it in the G8F rush. There's a charcter for G3F I've been trying to make for a long story worth of renders ever since G3F was released, but continually failed - just couldn't get the body close enough on G3F from a base of e.g. Karen 7 FBM and/or normal maps or HD morph, Gia 7 FBM and/or normal maps or HD morph, or Rune 7 FBM and/or normal maps or HD morph as a base to start morphing from (well, not close enough to the shape AND also still able to be posed without horrible bend artefacts from morph conflicts). But with Ophelia 7 (with a whole load of other body morphs too) I have FINALLY managed to get the body I want for the character ... and now you've followed up with G8F just a few weeks after the Ophelia 7 releaseas and just as I'm finalising the G3F character, leaving me afraid you won't bother with any more G3F releases, even to deal with unfinished business like putting out the HD morph for a recent figure that you WOULD have put out if not for the new figure generation release. From experience, I'm not going to get the base -8 figure and some of the Lvl 2, 3 and 4 morphs for G8F I'd need to re-create this character on G8F for a long time (especially as I can transfer SD morphs from G3F to G8F trivially, but not HD morphs); so PLEASE finish off Ophelia 7 with the HD morph now.
I'll even accept it without intro discount if that will get you to release it.

I still fail to understand why HD Add-ons for DAZ Original characters are not
- released as part of the Pro bundle
- released on launch day of a new figure shape
- - -
I pay for DAZ3D Pro bundle figure shapes to be able to use them
- in more advanced 3rd party render engines
- in other 3rd party software
-> For high quality renders either HD morphs or displacement maps are needed.
In my opinion also for Nvidia Iray HD morphs and displacement maps yield better results than normal maps.
-> When you payed several thousand dollars for your workstation in order not to worry about VRAM and system resources you may want to render licensed 3d content at the highest quality possible.

I purchased the Opheila Pro bundle on Mai 14, 2017. Today on June 26 the HD Addon is still not released.
As a show of "good will" I pay DAZ3D Pro bundles blindly in advance with the hope the HD addons will deliver the expected quality.
It is frustrating and annoying that weeks and months pass without the required addons being released.
Why is it so difficult to understand that customers want to create images with the purchased licensed content characters on launch day and not months later?

HD packs should be part of the pro bundle.
I agree.
I don't pay what is imo rediculous prices for them.
+1
In this day and age the HD should be a part of the main figure automatically (to be dialed in or out when needed of course), and not something you should have to purchase seperately. But, yeah, at this point I'd even settle for it being a part of the pro bundle.
Agreed!!

It looks like Brenna has some. Hope they release them for Ophelia.

Although I understand that it is a way to get extra revenue from a character I would like to see the HD morphs included with the character. Or they could reduce the skimpwear in the Pro Bundle and include the Pro morphs for the same bundle price.
Another +1
It's 2017 and computers are much more powerful then when Genesis 2 was introduced. We have games doing 4K in real time for PC's, and supposedly this year for consoles.
Still waiting for an HD bundle for Sunny 7.
You need to also realise many here are just hobbyists and not gamers and as such don't have the latest and greatest hardware or strive to have it like many gamers do. With a game the developers can push tech to the edge because the scenarios in the game are scripted so that gameplay doesn't suffer as much. Here it isn't the case, there are too many factors that can combine to bring any PC to it's knees. So while HD everything is a great thing, many will not be able to take full advantage of it so options are needed so everyone can get great results.
i also believe the HD morphs should be part of the character. I never buy a pro bundle as there are usually too many things included I will never use, but would love to get the HD morphs when I get the character
Point is that the computing power is far higher now in 2017 - the lowly GTX 1050 for about $100 gives you nearly the performance of the GTX 700 series cards from 2013. Even the mobile chipsets offer impressive performace compared to 5 years ago.
Can't keep tying everyone down to 15 year old tech because some fuddies don't want to upgrade their 10 year old computer. "I don't wanna upgrade, Word 2003 still runs OK."
The beauty with HD morphs is that they can be turned on or off.
I agree that HD morphs should be in the Pro Bundle—it IS a PRO bundle, but I don't want to sacrifice a (probably useless) outfit in order to get it. I wait until they are on extreme sale to get them.
Don't sacrifice the outfit, sacrifice one of the pose sets. They've been getting increasingly redundant as of late, and it's not like most of them are made expressly for the specific character.
Maybe with Ophelia 8.
LOL
Hmmm, I don't know about this one. My GTX 1050ti's are pretty good. No where near 1080ti's but still...
The HD packs should go for like $15 - $20 each separately and should be part of the Pro Bundle and drop one of the pose sets. Genitalia should be included free with GF8 / G8M. Otherwise I think it's pretty good although I admit I don't buy many of the Pro Bundles I still would the ones that I want like Girl 7/Guy 7.
Which reminds me I would like to see the Super Hero Pro Bundle be part of the Girl 8 / Guy 8 Pro Bundle. It's sort of a natural combination.
I bet we'll see the HD morphs for Victoria 8 before we see those ones :/
Many educational institutions and other illustrators and animators
will never have a need to render nude genitalia.
I think it is reasonable that such "features" are a paid add-on.
The HD morphs for Genevieve 7 and Monique 7 had a signficant gap between their release dates and their base figures. They might show up once the New banner drops off of Ophelia 7 so they can have the base figure as part of the sales promo.
Now, that sounds very likely.
Okay. She was released in the first half of May? Then I'd expect her HD pack to be part of the August ramp-up before the PA sale launches in September.
Fair enough, but they shouldn't be locked behind a Pro Bundle purchase. The gens should be like an extra $10-$20. NOT locked behind a $135.00 (base price) Pro Bundle purchase. I've been doing 3D art for over a year now and STILL don't have the gens because I can't afford to purchase the pro bundles.
Honestly I think the gens should be part of the base mesh. I use G3 in other software as well and having a prop attached is always a mess. They could easily hide the gens with a morph by default, like they did it with the nipples and so there should be no issue with clothes and so on. This would avoid seams in 3rd party software as well.
On the other hands, they could make separate meshes for the eyes, as they are not really part of the skin. They already did it with the eyelashes in G8.
By the way: I'd favour displacement maps with alphas over HD morphs to avoid huge polygon numbers.
And I'm waiting for Ophelia/Sunny HD as well...
Well I honestly feel if DAZ included the gen meshes as part of the body morphs it would increase sales of the body morphs, make anatomical and logical sense, and not hurt the Pro character bundles sales in the least although they could of course continue to include them in those Pro bundles too. Of course free with the free base makes the most logical sense but they have their sales numbers so I can't argue with that.
As far as educational aspects well the 'embarrasing' education material is rendered in drawing, paintings, pictures, sculptures and is available and yet 6th grade boys aren't lined up to ogle all that naughtiness. DAZ is sort of irrelevant except I can see that an enterprising curriculum creator might combine Unity 3D (or UE4 etc), DAZ models (or MakeHuman, etc), and intelligent instructional UI creation to create teaching aid apps that are a bit more engaging. However, such institutes are so flush with money they'd likely completely reinvent the wheel to accomplish those aims.
Particularly given that the gens have nothing to do with the individual character morphs that the character bundles are supposedly about.
Actually, while it obviously works for the company, I'm not sure that the sort of scattershot approach to the bundles is the most useful model for the users. I suspect that in the main, more people will buy a scattershot bundle with an all-over-the-map assortment of content if it comes with a DAZ O character morph. But I know that I would definitely consider a bundle of 4-6 outfits, two pose packs, and a hair which were targeted at a specific genre, or age group. Not just the big categories, like Fantasy, or SciFi, but things like Mid-Victorian/Female or Back to School, or Your Granparents Closet, or something like that. Particularly if the content is something that can be used to kitbash.
Mind you, I'm an illustrator, so that is going to affect how I evaluate things. I've usually got a pre-existing set of characters that I'm shopping for.
But, yeah. The Genesis base (all of them) is free with the program. Well, a version of Victoria 4 (with a painted on purple bikini) used to b free with the program. So was a dragon.
Why *not* offer a bundle of the Body, Head, and Expression morphs for the base and call that the Genesis # Starter bundle. Maybe throw in a pose pack and another hair. For a Genesis # Pro pack throw in the gens, a set of HD morphs which are built for the base UVs, a set of hand poses, and maybe a set of more extreme morphs.
Or, for all that this market doesn't do a lot with coupons, maybe the Pro pack should offer a one-time, one use, coupon which the user could build their own bundle of anything in the PC+ collection at PC+ price, even if they are not a member? And if they are a member, let them have another $6 DAZ O coupon that month. Or let one of their regular coupons be good on new items if they use it before the end of that month.
I mostly agree. I'd be more interested with the character models being sold independent of any bundle and instead clothing genre bundles, hair style bundles and the like. Hair is still the product I own the least of from the DAZ Store both because I find it so uninspiring and ridiculously overpriced. I'm essentially being asked to buy the same hair styles over and over using the same mediocre techniques in use since the 90s with minor re-fitting and style variations. Clothing too although I'm building up a pretty good collection of clothing. My character collection is also somewhat sparse because it seems no matter which characters I buy I wind up with a middle of the road bland skin tone when I render despite the ad copy unless I spend hours and days setting up & starting and stopping testing renders to test the effects of my changes. Yes, I know about floodlights and adjusting the Surfaces but hey, I see the ad and what it looks like, I buy the product and it's not dumb-dumb simple with presets like I'd expect a consumer product oriented to ignorant hobbytime folk to be.
Maybe I'm strange, but this would actually turn me off of buying the DAZ originals entirely, as I actually find the selection of products included to be the big draw. If I want the Head, Body and Expressions, I'll buy them if there is a bundle option that only contains them. This would also make me end up going elsewhere for the anatomical elements, or doing without, simply because I don't feel that the HD morphs for the DAZ Originals are required in my artwork. I already leave a lot of my content on the DAZ end because it's not useful to me.
Partly why I split them off into the apocryphal Pro bundle. Not that many people absolutely need those. But the Head, Body and Expression packages everyone who has the Studio program can find a use for. And there were a lot of complaints because they were *not* offered in a bundle.
None of this is likely to happen in any case. But one of the reasons it won't is that just about everything that comes in a bundle, *except* various presets from a few PAs, tend to also be available separately. DAZ is never going to offer the gens separately.
