Desperado Expansion - shotgun

Does anyone have some views of the gun itself in today's Desperado HD Expansion?  The official promos are more concerned with the poncho and the belt.

Hard to say exactly from the promos but it sure looks like an odd one.. described as "shotgun" but the bandolier appears to be full of what appear to be modern rifle cartridges? Also looks like a shotgun with an under barrel tube magazine, but looks like there's no lever or pump, or ?? other action mehcanism? What would be nice with that set would be a good model of an 1887 Remington lever action shotgun...

It is gun model by someone that knows nothing about guns.  I would it closely resembles an original Henry's Repeat Rifle.  It is not the first time some techie confused a repeating rifle with an under barrel cartridge magazine for a shotgun.

The other thing that sticks out is the pointed bullets used in the bandolier rounds, NOT a good thing in a tubular magazine!

On Henry's  - its wise to wear a glove with a Henry, no foregrip means you'll feel the heat after a few rounds, and the magazine follower can catch your finger when it gets near the receiver..

@hacsart  "The other thing that sticks out is the pointed bullets used in the bandolier rounds, NOT a good thing in a tubular magazine! "

So the tube goes BANG on recoil, how could that be a problem devil

The "shotgun" / bandolier issue turned me off immediately. It's not like it's hard to find actual images for any of the period rifles. I also thought shotgun was an odd choice, since the character would (probably) be more likely to have a rifle, Henry, Marlin, Winchester, take your pick.

Agreed! I was soooo thrilled when I saw the outfit in the store since i have been waiting for a high quality western rig for awhile, but there are still some things that are off like the gun and bandolier

I skipped the addon and just bought the western outfit. I'm sure I have a suitable rifle somewhere ;)

That's probably what I'll do as well.  Luthbel's clothes haven't disappointed.

From what I have read, shotguns (usually doubles, as "coach guns") were a lawman's friend at times. The 1887 Winchester Lever action shougun was also quite a popular piece.. Now a real backup piece would have been a cutdown pistol, or "belly gun". As for bandoilers, not so much, but they do show up in phots, most notably on ones of Pancho Villa..

Me? for a pistol, Smith and Wesson Schofield or #3, or perhaps a Merwin-Hulbert, rifle? Something in 45-70, Sharps or Winchester 1886..

There are several models from the Fallout 3 series  and mods that do work well in DS..

If I could only dig up the disc that has Questor's guns on it, I know I'd find something appropriate. Oldies, but goodies LOL.

At the google warehouse there are quite a few older winchester type models that convert well.

here is one I just slapped some IRAY shaders on.

Me personally, I am a navy Colt guy, especially after shooting one.

Panos's handguns from Vanishing Point were a good bargain when they were on introductory sale:

Never fired a Colt Navy, but many years ago before the gun laws up here changed, I did own a Colt 1911 National M<atch in .45ACP, and a Colt Python 8" barrel in .357 Mag. Have fires a replic S&W Scholfield, and  Remington Army , both in 44.40

But the expansion has more textures for the Desperado Clothes, something I have been wanting for Luthbel sets since Arien became unable to do texture expansions for him back in Genesis 1 times. And the textures are by Luthbellina, his sister, who is no slouch with textures or clothes modeling. There are some great western weapons in Polish's store, and there's another store that I cannot mention that has LOTS of authentic (looking) Western weapons.

Interesting, one of those Polish pistos is a Merwin Hulbert, 4th model

The gun and bullets in the bandolier are disappointing, but I am more interested in the 4 textures for the main clothing set.

I actually put together a replica Colt Navy from a kit 27 years ago. Nice little cap lock pistol.

  • Hi all!
I always try to modify the concept to do something unique, maybe this time I have moved away from the realism more than desired. Mainly the product are the textures for Luthbel's set, but I wanted to add the poncho and the cross belt, so a shotgun was needed.

I attach some references that I have followed and also some captures and renders from the shotgun.

I will take note for futures props and try to get more realism in them. Thanks !! :)

    Cris.

Thanks for the explanation.   A few points to help out

    - those are NOT shotgun cartridges, those are rifle cartridges. Shotgun shells look like this:

The shotgun you show is also an English over/under double. Most Shotguns used in the west were side-by side doubles:

Also. those bandolier pics are from the Boer War in South Africa, and are not really typical of  Old West in North America.

From a different point or view, this is an instant "must have" for me, just for the bandoiler. While not perfect it's more then acceptable for a range of uses from the late 1880's to the early 1920's and from Mexico to Sth Africa, Palestine, the Balkans within my interests and likely much more I'm unaware of.

So thanks fo this product, It's the first new product purchase for me since Meshitup's Persian Warrior Outfit.

Indeed, ANY Old West stuff is more than welcomed by me.. We could use some "TV Western" and "Singing Cowboy" outfits as well (OK, I know I would use 'em)..  This outfit does have a good set of spurs and a nice buckle (I have to say I have more than a few buckles, some of which are larger than the one in this product...)

How about a "Man with No Name" outfit? that'd be a natural follow up to this one... The posse is ready for him..

Agreed! Would love to see more expansions (detailed double gunbelt with ties for the legs for one) on this outfit since the base is already there. Even new outfits from the same vendor in weatsern and fronteir styled outfits. Here is a great website with actual western and frontier clothing you can buy. It's a great resource for ideas on the theme
