Zev0's Molly

I wanted to thank Zev0 for releasing a new teen character https://www.daz3d.com/molly-hd-for-genesis-3-female

We have been doing pretty well with child figures being released for Genesis 3. Official female teens, both male and female tweens. Chase by Karth and SF-Design, Lola's Son by Deepsea, and now Molly by Zev0. Also 3D Universe has released more toonish kids with The Little Ones, Amber, Haley, Rayn, and Skyler. I want to encourage PAs to continue this trend, so I have been buying them up as fast as my budget will allow. Now if we could just get more PAs to include fits for the Growing Up morphs in their clothing...

I will be buying Molly on Sunday and look forward to seeing if the eyebrows from the Growing Up skins will work with Molly's textures, and vice versa.

Edit: that's very odd, the 30% new release discount has disappeared.

Yep ..she went straight into my cart (as do all Zevo's creations) and went about checking-out all the latest offerings in the shop, only to find when I later 'proceeded to checkout' that the discount has been 'discounted' ... ! Surprised, I went through the usual 'Hoops' we are all told to do in cases like this (log out, .. log in, .. when this fails .. DO IT AGAIN only this time assume the pose and chant the mantra..) but no.  .. the discount has now even been deleted from the Shop Page..
Oh well, .. out of the cart then ... no big deal

  • I wanted to buy her, also. But a new product without the 30%, no way. Out of the cart it went and I really liked her a lot. Let's hope it was a mistake that they correct.

Hopefully the discount comes back. Sadly, I can't afford it without the 30% discount.

Don't be so fast to empty your carts. Glitches like this happen. Frequently. We talk about them all the time in whichever is the current "There's always another sale" thread. Come on by and join us.

I suspect DAZ is fixing a problem within the store. If you purchase three or more items, new from today and/or from the featured artists' back catalogs, you should see a 50% discount. Except any item released before Jan 1, 2016 is considered "legacy" and will see a 65% discount. But during the night, if you put three or more items in your cart, legacy or not, they came up with the 65% discount.

Once the corrections are made, you will see the discounts as promised by the adcopy, (assuming the techs get it right, of course,) including the minimum discount of 30% for a single new release.

I got her, and a couple of other older Zev0s for 65% off much earlier today, although I was not expecting the discount to quite that large (particularly for a new item).

Even if you have little or no interest in younger characters, the fibre mesh eyebrows are worth checking out, as they are packed with morphs to adjust them.

I did find her skin rendered somewhat darker than I expected, so I had to reduce the translucency weight.

I wonder whether people realise the 65% thing is not a mistake? I read it completely wrong, thinking that I had to buy Molly at 30% discount and then 3 legacy items to get 65% discount on the legacy items only (with Molly remaining at 30%). But I realised I might be mistaken when I read this post (above) so I popped Molly and two Legacy products in the cart and - lo and behold - 65% off all of them. I then added the Aeon Soul dress and got 65% off that too.

    Good deal :)

...ahh have to buy more items to get a deeper discount.  She's cute, looks like a real teen one would actually see in RL instead of one who looks more like a mini fashion model or is highly stylised.  Sadly short on funds so for now she resides on teh wishlist.

Well, unless I misunderstand all of the DAZ promotions (and that is a real possibility) I think that the usual intro discount involves buying a new item at 30% in order to get one or more legacy items at a bigger discount, depending on how many you buy. This one actually includes the new release along with the legacy items in the increased discounts. And, for me, Zev0 products are always useful. Pity Skin Builder 3 wasn't included - I'm having to hold off on that until it appears in a sale.

..I have it  Was saving the remainder of a GC for a while time to help with the purchase.  Incredible resource, really expands my ability to work with G3F as I don't have to buy a whole slew of characters to build a library of skins.  Well worth the price when you figure most character content goes for around 20$ a pop.

$20.00?  I don't think I've paid that much for just a character since the days of Victoria 3.  I think I might have paid around $15.00 for one of the DAZ G2 or G3 base figures to qualify for a discount, but usally I'll get a bundle where the price is absorbed by all the other items, or I'll wait for a sale of at least 50% off.  I'd say the top price I usually pay for a vanilla male of female character set (no hair, geografts or LAMH presets) is around $10.00 and the average is closer to $6.00... and even cheaper if you count the V4/M4 characters that I get for a few dollars and convert over.  Mind you, none of that changes the fact that SB3 is still an insanely good deal, especially when you factor in that the tan builder, makeup builder, etc. all work on figures besides the SB3 base skins.

...just scanning the first page of the store pretty much all of the PA G3 characters I see are priced (list) at between 18 and 20$ (rounding up the 5¢ to an even dollar amount). Yes for a couple weeks they are 30% off but that still puts thm at between 13 - 15$ each (and PC coupons don't apply to new PA releases).  That may not sound like a lot to some but on my budget it is.  Bundles are usually right out for me as I don't have the funds to drop 60$ to 90$ at one shot (hence the large number of Stonemason items on my wishlist for example) and many also have clothing (skimp and/or fantasy wear) I wouldn't use.

Most of the time when I purchase a single DO figure, it has already passed the new release stage, often goes on sale (Daz seems to do a number of DO based and figure themed sales) and I have my PC coupon to take another 6$ off.  A few were also "luck of the orange banner" (including the V7 Pro bundle which I got at a deep discount during  the PC sale last year - the total order along with 8 PC items coming to just over 15$).

As to converting skins from older characters, I just am not all that savvy with it.  Even with third party utilities, there is cleanup that needs to be done in PS to eliminate seams and other imperfections which I am just not good at doing.

Yes - I wish I had bought SB3 when it was a new release. It will come down again - especially if G4 hits the store quite soon. Zev0 will have his hands full producing morphs, etc. for that range then.

A basic rule of shopping at DAZ that I figured out a long time ago - EVERY item goes on sale for at at least 50% off the "list" price within a few months of passing new release status, while DAZ Originals get an even steeper discount  of at least 65% and often 70% off.  If an item is both a DAZ Original AND a P.A. Product, or produced by two P.A. together, there are also usually stacking discounts.  Therefore, unless you absolutely have to have the item the day it comes out or have a pressing need for it for some reason, like a commercial gig, it's a lot more financially sound to just say "yep, I want that" and make a note to buy it when the price drops.  Because it absolutely will drop, often before you even get a chance to use it.  Zev0 is one of the very few vendors that I automatically buy from on Day 1, as his stuff is usually immediately applicable to just about everything I do.

As for converting skins, if you want to convert to G3F or M, Cayman Studio's legacy UV sets are ridiculously easy to use and provide seamless conversion of everything back through Victoria 3 (he's the other vendor who has automatic Day 1 status for me), while Sickleyield's Beautiful SKins or NGS Anagennesis 2 both make converting the textures to Iray a snap.

I agree with kyoto kid that she's, not toonish, but a little styalised for my tastes. Her texture also looks a bit flat, not that there aren't products to remedy that. I'd like to see her with Anagenessis 2 applied.

Here she is with Anagenessis 2 applied. Original on the left (except for lowering the skin translucency) and Anagenessis 2 on the right. I am not sure why the eye color appears brown in one and blue in the other, as I did not change the textures.

Even at 65% off, I really can't find a use for her. Her looks are just not that appealing to me. I am sure she is high quality though, love Zevos work, just not my cup o tea. I never reander children or teens, so that is another limiting factor for me. Hope she does well for Zevo though.

Havos: Check the iris color in the original? There may be a map + diffuse color going on (I've seen that in other instances)

Also, personally, with freckles and Anagenessis, I often like to swap the Top Coat Bump to the actual bump map, because otherwise the freckles look a little... odd.

That's a quirk of NGS2's design.  It substitutes the color difuse textures for a lot of things that are normally done with different maps... put two copies of a figure, one with NGS2 and one without, side by side and compare the surfaces and it's quite surprising how many will be swapped out.  My guess is that's so that it will always work with any texture, even one that doesn't have those maps in the first place, and given how spectacularly well NGS2 works most of the time, it's clearly a choice that pays off.  Usually you can just go in and re-substitute the original texture maps or manually recolor the difuse texture to change it back.

The color on the iris map is greenish, and this is hinted brown by the diffuse color in the original shaders. Anagenessis changes the diffuse back to white, so I guess that is why we are seeing the difference.

I am sure you are correct about the freckles, I just applied the Anagenessis script and then hit render. Naturally they could be altered later by the user for their own taste.

Oh sure. I adore Anagenessis and use it constantly, just wanted to let folks know about stuff to poke at.

I also sometimes change the SSS reflectance tint and Glossy Color... but sometimes not. Worth experimenting.

Yes Molly's eyes uses a greyscale map for iris. Her base skin shader has a brownish color assigned to that. This was done so you could make the eye any color instead of having multiple dedicated color texture maps. So if the eye color changes, it is shader related.

...agh trying to respond on my phone. Need to keep this short as inserting paragraph breaks is a total pain. I rarely use the actual character shape/morphs (as I use morph resource content instead) so just buying them for the skin is still a bit of a waste. I miss the Gen3/4 days whwn you could purchase texture packs. I do have Beautiful Skins for G3 and they do make a good "starting point" as they require a tonne of micro-adjusting in the surfaces tab to get subtile nuances. I will say that the albino skin I created with SBP3 is far better than the one I made off the lightest option in Beautiful Skins. As I don't do much fantasy work I have little use for non natural skin shades. As I finally have SBP3 converting skin maps or having to purchase character content (unless it fits a specific need) is no longer a concern.
