Yeah, the CPU core per GPU thing is what I'd classify as true yet irrelevant. I can't imagine that someone with 2 GPU's can even find a single core CPU. I can't remember the last time I saw a single core CPU. Or even dual core. Heck, even my little $40 Raspberry Pi "desktop computer you can hold in your hand" is quad core. smiley

I love my Ras Pi. Right now I'm using it as a home media device. Once I find a decent hard drive enclosure, I'll make it a torrent client too. I think I may buy another one to try to learn programming on. I never could have dreamed of hardware like this back in my C64 days. "Gee, I can upgrade from a 64 to a 128Gb SD card for an extra ten bucks? Why not!"

Intel has finally given up on dual core CPU's except for their Pentium line which is still dual core. AMD obviously hasn't put out a dual core CPU in something like a decade. ARM might still make dual core CPU's for real low end embedded applications but I don't have their catalog at home.

Hi Padone , I love your content I was looking at it in the flash sale .  I wish I had knew how to use Maya

anyway back to the thread subject if anyone has a large animation or render project there are render farms now that can connect to Daz Studio, Carrara and Poser using Iray Gpu connecting you through tcpi SFTP under the Daz advanced iray setting.some of the farms require you to use their connection portal, others ones all you have to do put in the SFTP ip and pass code they give you to connect. ...

Render Farms are not for everyone but check it it may come in handy someday    https://rentrender.com/iray-render-farms/

Hello Ivy, it is very interesting to see your introduction on render farm, I had searched it many times and never found any farm can support DAZ. However, I went through the website you introduced and am sorry that I didn't find any farm support DAZ also.

Could you please introduce in detail that which farm can support DAZ and how you used it step by step? Thanks.

I want to know if its worth buying  2 1070ti's as opposed to ONE 1080ti. at most i think i might have 6 figures in a scene.

If I recall, the 1080ti is about equal to two base 1070s. So two 1070tis might be a little faster than one 1080ti. The VRAM might well become an issue though, if 6 people are in your scene it depends on how much you have going on and how large you want to render.

However, with RTX acceleration coming to Daz sometime this year (exact release date unknown), I strongly urge considering a RTX card. The 2080 is as fast as the 1080ti right now, maybe a hair faster. When Iray gets full RTX support though, the 2080 (and ALL RTX GPUs) will receive drastic performance boosts. Even the 2060 and 2070 should easily beat the 1080ti once this update comes along.

I don't know if you can wait, it sounds like you have a deal on your hands, but it may be worth waiting a while longer to see how RTX fairs when Daz get the new Iray. We don't know the exact performance, but I believe it will be well worth it.

can i wait? sure, just have to not spend the money lol. I'd rather just get one now, hopefully the 8gb will be enough ram on the GPU. right now im using a gtx670....

I used to have a 670! So I know how you feel. I'm guessing its a 2GB version, there were 4GB versions as well, but they are more rare. Mine was 2GB, and that was really tight, LOL.

I know it may be tough to wait, especially since we don't have any date to go by. Nvidia has to deliver the new Iray to Daz, which should happen any day now. Then it will be a month or two before Daz can release a new update to Studio. It will probably be a beta, though RTX is such a big deal they might go ahead and release a new Pro version given that Pro hasn't been updated since 2017.

So we are looking at couple months easily, if not more, on getting RTX in Daz. However, I truly do believe the wait will be worth it. Octane has a beta that supports RTX, and the RTX are getting about 3 times faster than they were before the update. If Iray RTX sees speeds anywhere near that, it will be huge. It will make any RTX card faster than any non RTX card, even Titans. But this is my speculation, even if it has foundation. Pretty much everything that has supported RTX has seen massive gains.

If I am right, the 2080 will about 2 to 3 times faster than the 1080ti when this update finally launches. Even the 2060 and 2070 will be much faster than the 1080ti, while being much cheaper. That is why I would wait. You can take this time to keep saving up money for one of these cards. I think the 2070, since it has 8GB like the 2080, will be a fantastic choice. And the 2060 for US $330 will be amazing.

Take a look at the 2080ti with RTX on vs off, and how it compares to the 1080ti and $3000 Titan V. I compare Octane because it is a render engine like Iray.

Here is a list of just RTX cards, which you can use to compare to the bench above. See how even the 2060 destroys the 1080ti when RTX is enabled? The numbers in these two charts are directly comparable. So you can see, the 2080 and 2070 are both already faster than the 1080ti in Octane even without RTX enabled. This is probably true in Iray, but I am only about 75% certain of this.

  • if im getting a second gpu does it have to match the first? i got a 2070

No, you can use literally any combination of semi-recent generation Nvidia GPUs together with Iray.
