HDR Question

Hello!
So I downloaded a new HDR file. The file itself has really vivid colors and is similar to those some product makers have put together for DAZ. However, when I used it, it really ends up a bit washed out (see below). I tinkered with all of the environment and camera settings, but just couldn't get the colors to look more like they do in the source HDR file. Is it just a function of DAZ's HDR files or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Jason

What exactly did you use? "HDR" files from the Web come in many varieties. Some aren't really HDR because they don't have enought dynamic range. Some have a jpg, a env, an hdr and/or a tif file. The jpg should never be used for lighting becasue it won't have the dynmaic range.
It would help if you linked to the HDR you used (incl type).
I think you should adjust the gamma to 1.0 instead of the default 2.2 in the Tone Mapping Settings.
Where did you get that HRDi? I'd like to try it.
Did you composit the runner into that HRDi scene as given the runner seems much to flatly colored and dark for the bright colors and light in the HRDi. If you do adjust the gamme to 1.0 the runner will be very dark indeed.
Maybe it is just a poor quality or falsely labeled HRDi? There lighting cast onto your runner doesn't make sense for what I see in the HRDi image.
Perhaps you didnt turn off camera light.
Yeah, not all HDR files are created equal :)

I actually rather like the look of that HDRI. In general I don't like them to look too much like real world photos an that has a nice pastel quality.
Looks like Tokyo Big Sight at http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html
The side the camera was coming from is dark so if you want light on the figure you will need to rotate the skydome. I just replaced the default desert image with the Tokyo_BigSight_3k.hdr file, changed the dome to finite and the Dome Scale Multiplier to 10.00. I probably could have gone a little smaller with the Dome Scale.

Conervting the .hdr to .tif and using that as light colors in Uberenviroment 2 also works well (sometimes, not all HDRI sets are well done). I do find that sometimes a distant light can be of great help when getting the illumnation just right (BTW, I use 3DL, so I have no idea on HDRI sets in iRay).
That HDRI set is not bad, either...
Oh, the other renders make it clear that is basically dim lights after closing. I actually have that but never used it, I really like the Tokyo Subway HRDi from the same site.
Yep! That's exactly the one I was using.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions!
