I know how to do that in ubuntu but I am not using ubuntu but win 10. I am trying to see if I still have content available on my sata hdd by my laptop will not see the sata drives.

You'll need to be a little more specific. Are you saying that the laptop will not even recognize the fact that the drives are there, or that it will not read them? Were these drives that were formatted and used in Linux? How are the drives attached to the laptop - internally, externally? If the latter, what sort of enclosure/connection are you using?
I think I got the wrong adapter. I need to return it asap and get a better one after better research.
