OT: There's a major new windows update.
in The Commons
It was called Creative something or other. It installed on my PC today.
Because of that ransom virus, I decided to double check to make sure I had the latest updates. I was certain that I did since I'm on the free version of Windows 10. I was surprised when I saw that there was a failed update. So I clicked on RETRY and it installed something. Not long after I got a window that wanted me to confirm some privacy settings and then some time after that it wanted to know if I wanted to reboot now or I could pick a time. It was probably after 7am and it gave me a choice of either 8 or 9 am. I just went ahead and did it. It took at least half an hour, I would guess.

It used to be that is you manually did a check update in Windows Update it would download a new updated anti-malware definition delta and then fail on install but they've fixed that as far as the Creative Update for me goes. It's been available since the beginning of April.
As far as the malware you are reading about in the paper that is limited to Windows 8 and earlier so if you had Windows 10 you are good for protection against that. I started with Windows 10 in August 2015 when it 1st released and it was pretty rough around the edges then but they have made huge improvements since then.
The Windows 10 Creators Update is legit.
If you want to install the updates manually, go here

Just reading about what's included. There's something called Paint 3D and, reading further, it does support imprt of .obj and .fbx. Might be interesting to play with.
The Creators Update was released back in April but to make things easier on people Microsoft would be release it in waves, so you just got it in the latest wave, I got the update last month..
Looking at it now and by the looks of it the only files that it can import/open are FBX and 3MF can't see any mention of OBJ..
Ok having another look at it and well it is very basic, there is not much you can do in it and as for FBX importing well lets just say if you have software like Silo, Zbrush or Blender this program will in no way challenge them..
Yeah, one review called it a toy.
The 3D Paint is meant to be more like an emoticon / 3D lettering / 3D 'Southpark' model creation program.
