Ruins of the War Room removed?

shadowhawk1shadowhawk1 Posts: 2,208

I tried to find the "Ruins of the War Room" I recently picked up and it seems to be missing. I looked in my product library and I notice that the page link and discription has been removed. I also noticed that one of the flags had been altered. Has this set been removed or just down for an update or was it removed due to the implied alligence the flags implied?

It was removed; no idea why. My understanding is that it wont be returning, but I could be wrong; there is another thread that was locked, and has a bit more info, but not a lot; I understand it was locked as basically it didn't go anywhere.

I saw a thread about the wild west bundle but nothing about this one. I didn't open the tread as it didn't mention this set in the title. Apparently I downloaded it before they changed the flags and was going to show someone the difference and was surpised when it had been removed.

So will it return or is this one of those sets that are gone for good?

From my limited understanding, I think its possible the War Room may come back IF (big, big if) the artist can/will make changes to get rid of the offending details. I can think of no reason the Western products were dropped, and I really wanted to get them. No information is going to be coming from the artist or the company, so any speculation is useless. It's a shame, the promos were wonderful. C'est la vie

    Greetings,

I actually passed up the destroyed room because it looked like the only textures it had were ones that I wasn't comfortable with.  It looked like it was modeled excellently, but the symbology gave me the heebies.  I hadn't even thought of the non-US audience issue...

The one comment I'd seen about the Saloon from someone who managed to buy it and download it before it was pulled was that it seemed to take an extremely long time to render.

I thought the War Room looked useful, if you were on a WWII kick, and it didn't seem to be glorifying the Nazi imagery, which is all I personally care about from a moral standpoint when it comes to that kind of thing. I think they made the right judgment to respect German sensitivities though.

Not just German sensitivities, still a sensitive matter here in The Netherlands as well .....

I haven't seen it in the store, so I don't know how the banners looked there; there still is info in the documentation center.

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/41667/start

    It mentions:

    Resolved Issues

    • 2017-04-26 - Updated banner image.

Not sure if this refers to the problem above

When I lived in Switzerland there was a movie, Der Untergang, about the German dictator during WWII and it was a German/Italian/Austrian movie so I guess portraying the symbolism that is a problem and portraying the actual behavior is not. That blows my mind.

As far as I'm concerned the market, art or game or movie, is already innudated with such easy topics so I ignore them. Although if they have a lot of old architecture, outdoor scenes, and period clothing I will watch bits & pieces, usually with the sound turned off.

I am a little puzzled actually, none of the flags in the original set had a banned emblem in them. The flag on the left had the current emblem for the German Republic and the one on the right while using the same Eagle and banner had an Iron Cross instead of a swastica. I am a little surprised that nothing has been mentioned of the painted portrait that bears a striking resemblance to the former dictator. None of this is banned by German or EU laws.

I understand the sensitivity that this set might generate, but if we choose to hide from anything in the past that could be considered offensive it will only help someone else to do it again later. As someone that enjoys learnign about history, I have always found it to be interesting that most people focus on the Nazi's atrocities during WWII but seem to forget the atrocities committed by the Japanese.

Personally I found the set interesting enough to pick it up on a historical basis and I am disappointed that the powers that be removed it.

Using the German Republic emblem in conjunction with Nazi-invoking imagery like the Hitleresque portrait is apparently the part that's illegal.

Actually its the actually Nazi badging that is illegal. I also build plastic models and military kits that I buy that come from Revell Germany have those marking omitted. That would explain why they pulled it the first time and changed the flag with the German Republic Eagle out for one that had a dragon on it, that doesn't explain why it was pulled after that.

Actually no one here knows if anything in that image or model set was illegal, it's just speculation. NAZI claims are often abused nowadays to start witch hunts.

I find it laughable that product got removed given the content of some other products and/or the ad copy for some products but apparently the customers that complained don't understand violence is violence. My complaints for a rating systems to filter the store, gallery, and forums with have gone unheard.

Anyone, if that's even the reason at all, DAZ 3D or the PA has not said why and so what we are doing is gossip. Maybe, it had nothing to do with that and was a disagreenment about something else or the product was sold for exclusive use in some other non-DAZ product.

DAZ customer service said specifically to me 8 days ago when I first inquired:

"I apologize for the trouble. This product has been removed from the store due to inappropriate content. Please continue to watch the Daz site for updates on this product.

Please let me know if you require any further assistance."

Then it came back briefly with the one flag replaced with a dragon as shadowhawk1 said, but now its gone again. So I imagine when it finally returns, if it does return, it will have rainbow flags and  a picture of a baby unicorn to make everyone happy.

Hopefully some person won't contact DAZ then saying they are offended by rainbows and baby unicorns

It think the store should make a statement and have a stickied thread for products it removed. This way customersl know about it, will know if the product will return, and will cut down on speculation. It seems natural people will want to know and gauging customer's expectations is a better way to handle customer inquiries than tickets and threads by the curious.

Well, to incentivise more asiduous checking of terminology we are going to lock this thread as it does keep slipping into quasi-political discussion, or worse.
