What do I do?

music2u4umusic2u4u Posts: 2,822

Yesterday I purchased I13s Stylish Apartment for right at 15.00. I worked with it all day yesterday in Daz 4.9 and did different renders with both 3D Delight and Iray. I also got G3 Skyler and she had two different skins and hair settings for both engines. I have done some nice renders using both of those settings in the past with no problems. I have never experienced what I did yesterday with this item. I am posting the results of what I got. The first render is an Iray "right out of the box" render using the included "render ready" file. Nothing has been altered at all. As you can see, after a 4 hour rendering, I got all that snow all over it. Then I noticed that even on the advertisement for the product, there is snow showing. The next renders are 3D Delight renders of Skyler sitting in the chair up close. What the hell? Why is everything out of focus? I unsuccessfully ever got even a simple render. Even with the openGL render (last pic), I got gray patches on her skin. I can render her alone and have not problems, so it has to be this apt that is causing this to happen. I have bought tons of products here, but I have never been so unhappy about a buy in all my Daz years. (18). I am seriously thinking about asking for a refund and applying it to another purchase, UNLESS someone here can tell me how to reslove this out of focus and sno problem. Anyone? (Click the attatchments to see the renders full size.)

To solve the out of focus problem I would try looking at your camera settings the one you are rendering through and see if DOF is turned on.

The 'snow' problem is because the image needs more rendering time.

  • LinwellyLinwelly Posts: 6,055

yes that looks like your camera got the DOF activated and the focus is out of range. Grainy Iray additionallly has had not enough light to render fast, woudl need a longer render time ( still ourt of focus)

Looking at it in studio, my first question is what is the difference between Preload and Set? Especially when the same image is used- so that's not very helpful. So I just clicked Scene. It's rendering now, back in a few minutes, EDIT: Going to retest. The DOF is definitely ON. But that's not the biggest problem. When I click on CAM in the Scene tab to go to Parameters and shut off DOF in the camera, this weird ghost plane appears in my view. There is indeed noise and grit all over the render.

So Scene is a disaster, but the Preload will work fine. What the heck is SUPPOSED to be the difference?

I'm trying the Preload now, it seems almost normal as it's coming in. And I'm using Cam. I upped the ISO to about 140, and the Exposure Value to 13.40  I also took out the Back Wall for the camera shot, don't know how much more light is coming in due to that. The max samples and time were already extended. The Preload seems fine to me, so I'll post that here, then go back and try the Scene one again with these settings.

I have a fast computer (Alienware51, enhanced) so expect slightly longer render times because a typical scene setup takes my computer about 10 minutes to 25 minutes (with the time set to a couple hours and the samples really increased)  This was with the set FULLY LOADED though.

    55% at 14 minutes.
70% at 17 minutes 45 seconds    COMING IN FINE.
    77% 20 minutes.
    84%  24 minutes 32 seconds
    93%  27 minutes
    96% 32 minutes  5501 iterations
    98% 38 minutes

Okay, my question for @music2u4u is did you use the Scene or the Preload? I am having no problems with Preload, and will retest the Scene setup as I think I experienced what you did. Let me finish the Preload one first.

Here it is using Preload. I will test the Scene option and put that one back in the previous post. But I don't honestly have another half an hour to test this, but we'll get a good feel of it before then. These renders were large, 1100 px. CLICK TO ENLARGE.

    Greetings,

I'm not seeing much of a problem, and I think I loaded the 'Scene', as I presumed the 'Preload' was just the objects.  We should go by iterations, not by minutes however, as that mostly normalizes for hardware (I'm on a 1080).  I'm at 15 minutes and 1795 iterations (2.29% converged) and it looks okay.  I don't have the bloom in the back windows that the OP has, though, nor the 'god rays' that the promo picture has.  (Rendered at 16x9, 2000x1125.)

    Quick test sample render

As a second test, I loaded the Preload, and ran it with the stock numbers it came in with, and I'm starting to see the yellow sun bloom coming in the back window.  (It's gorgeous.)  I'm at 4m and ~400 iterations, 7% convergence.  It's already looking better than the OP's post, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I'm getting the same problems as the OP when using Scene. Here's the exact same viewport, the camera setup is completely different in Scene than in Preload. And how strange, I'm getting "no file data could be found in your post" when I try to post the render image! Done it twice.

To make this even more funky, it will render fine in the viewport for Scene, but won't render the same. And I'm still getting no file data could be found in your post, even though I've rendered it three times. (The Scene one) The Preset went through without problems. I give up. All I can say is I got the results that the OP got with the exception that I turned off the DOF. The extreme graininess was there, big pixelated blobs.

I will guess that you used the same camera that loaded up with the scene.  If so, as stated above already, double check the Depth of Field setting for that camera in the Parameters tab.

    Greetings,

This is the 'Preload', and it looks gorgeous.  It stopped after 5,000 iterations, 14.49% converged, about 40 minutes.

    Stylish Apartment Preload

The camera doesn't force a specific aspect ratio, so that'll be a difference between folks renders.  I used 16x9.

I mentioned I had that turned off. It's not the DOF, it's noise and graininess, and it's hard to describe- almost like a cartoon photoshop element had been applied. Only happens with the Scene one, not the Preset. I still don't know what the difference was in those two, as both are the full scenes?

I have read all of your posts. You guys have it going on with 3d. Thank you so much for your help. The main question now is this....should a person who bought and paid money for something have to go through ALL THAT just to get a grainy render? And that is without any characters added...OMG! I am an average 3d user, like most, and do not have all the experience some of you do. I have worked with this until the frustration had me put it down. It just seems unfair to not be able to use something you bought here. I have bought tons of items and have NEVER had to go through all this for a half way render. I will ask for a refund. Thanks again friends.

I guess the way to go is file a support ticket. I don't have the set, so I can't really say what, but as two of you got that wierd thing going on, it's a matter for support.

    Greetings,

I have to admit, I don't feel like either of my tests had any problems. They were load-and-render.  That said, if you're consistently having problems on your system then you should definitely file a ticket to either get help, or a refund.

I have been buying items here for 18 years. Out of all the tons of things I've bought, I have had problems with only two items and this is one of them. Daz has refunded me for this today and I will apply that to another purchase. So, they get it back...haha. This team is a great bunck and I have worked with them for many years with the freebie challenge I hosted for 7 years. Easy to work with and will bend to help you. Thanks so much Daz Team. Thanks to all who helped up in here and kinda taught me a thing or two about Iray. Beats Reality out...lol. I used it for a long time. Consider this closed.

Ok, if you used the same camera, then I highly recommend you check that cameras settings because it looks like it has Depth of Field on.

Not sure how familiar you are with Daz Studio but you can use your Perspective Camera to view the DOF planes of any camera in your scene.  Simply select the camera in the scene tab and then switch to your Perspective camera and view where the character is from a side angle.  Then in the Parameter tab, under the heading "Camera" you can adjust the focal point and DOF planes of the camera.  Or in other words, it lets you see where the camera is focused and how narrow or wide your Depth of Field will be.

If it helps, as I dont konw your background in art, here is a photography tutorial covering Depth of Field, focal length and distance to subject  - http://www.photoaxe.com/depth-of-field-photography-tutorial-part-3/

@mattymanx   Never a problem- I wasn't offended, I was just posting quickly and to the point because I was trying to watch the iterations, time, and percentage as it was rendering the Scene one again, and posting at the same time. You're never snippy, so I didn't take it that way. And I never did get it to accept the file here. Keeps saying no data found in the file.

@music2u4u   I'd like to mention my Art Studio thread- if you're having specific problems with a product, or want to see one rendered before you buy it, that's a product showcase thread and we try to render requests /tackle problems if people have them. I just happened to see this thread, but a lot of the time I'm just in the Art Studio, trying to keep up. The vendors are nice to help out too when we @ them, if they're online. (appreciate the help, let me tell you!)

Ok folks...new discussion...new item. I returned the Apt I had bought and used the refund to buy a new one. First Bistons College Dorm. Like the other one it has two presets for rendering. One is for 3dDelight and the other is for Iray. It also has SS for each. It works a lot better than the other but I still have a unique problem. I will post some renders as I go along for you to see. First the "right out of the box" renders for 3d delight and Iray. I used the viewport size for the 3d Delight and the setting for Iray that came with it. Still some snow in the Iray.

It seems to do ok...until you introduce a character into the scene. Then it gets real picky. It will take V4 characters, K4 characters and SOME G3 characters just fine. It does hesitate with the G3 ones, but picks back up and finishes. However...there is one G3 character it refused to take. The one I bought along with the Aptartment the other day. G3 Skyler Teen character. It will render up to top of her head and stop. I tried both the 3d Delight and Iray skins and clothes for her and nothing worked. It just stops and refuses to go any more. I ate my supper then took a long bath and it was still stuck at 49%. It had not moved in almolst 2 hours. I tried many times as you can see. I have posted an openGL render of each and the incompleted renders for you to see where it stopped.

Next...the good ones. V4 did great. K4 Kaitey did great. G3 Adult And there is a G3 character that I created myself similar to Skyler but I used the default G3 skin and a different hair. It did fine too. Slow but fine. So this G3 Skyler character was the one I used with The Stylish Apartment that was all out of focus and screwey. Funny thing is...I can render her alone and she does fine, and even with an image background. It is only when I use her with any new 4.9 room to render. Why is that?

So there ya go...comment as you will so we can learn. I still haven't done an Iray with a character because it takes soooo long...lol. I will do one with G3 Skyler and one with V4 or another character later.

If anyone else has the G3 Skyler character and wants to post any renders of your results here, feel free to. She also came in the Genesis 1 and 2 versions. Curious to see how she is doing with others.

Which hair is it? Some hairs render extremely slow in 3DL, especially with certain render settings and/or a slow PC, so it may look like the render stops when it gets to the hair. It doesn't, it just takes a long time to render the hair. I suspect this is the problem here.

I just tried to do a 3DL render of the Dorm with Skyler G3 without hair, no problems here. Took about 30 min. on a medium fast PC.
