Applying a UV map

Hi I modeled and created UV maps for the object in blender and I'm fairly new to blender so it might be an obvious mistake. I imported my obj into Daz and created surfaces for the different sections that I have UV maps for.  But I don't know how to apply the UVs. In my surfaces editor there's a UV set but in the drop-down menu it only has 'Default UVs' and there isn't a way to import mine.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

  • it doesn't work like that in DAZ. If you want you item to have a special texture, you have to save the UV map out of Blender as an image and then paint on it in a photoediting program, like Photoshop or GIMP and save it under a new name. Then once you have your model in DAZ, you put your painted UV map, now a texture, into the Diffuse Color channel if using 3DL or in the Base Color channel if using Iray.

Otherwise if you've already set up the material zones for your model, you can use pretty much any shader you want on the surfaces.

Hi g4ck4me, when you export the OBJ from Blender, it should already have the UV maps defined from what you unwrapped in Blender. If you have material zones defined from within Blender, those zones will show up as surfaces in DAZ.

    Hope this helps.

  • The reason I thought I needed UV Maps, maybe I'm not UV maping it correctly, is because when I apply an image onto the surface in Daz it shows up as one solid color instead of an image.

That does sound like no UVs. What do you see if you select one oif your surfaces (and the mdoel) in DS and switch the preview mode to UVs by clicking the little sphere icon to the left of the camera/view picker?

Surfaces should be set up in the modeling program.  Dont worry about doing anything special to the surface for use with Cycles as it wont be required for DS.

As for the UVs comming out all white, if the UV is in tack then it could be its scaled way too small.  Would be best to find someone in here who uses Blender for assistance getting the UV issue handled

  • I fixed it after watching some tutorials and playing around with Blender for while.

Thank you for all of your help everyone.
