This looks like a very looking useful product. I'd really like to see at least a thumbnail of the

90 HDR Environment Maps (2048 x 1024)

Included. Does anyone know if those are posted somewhere, a development thread perhaps? I did watch the video but it only shows a few of the backgrounds. Those would make this an instant buy for me if they are all real world backdrops.

I don't think they are real world backdrops. I believe they are more of these: https://www.daz3d.com/iradiance-light-probe-hdr-lighting-for-iray-expansion-2

I have Expansion 1 and 2. They're great for lighting, and if you render with dome on, you get a nice, neutral background that's great for portraits and adds a little color. Here's an older render I did last year that uses one:

I also used these without the dome on for my Black Kat book cover here. If I remember right, it was the only light I used in this scene:

The first two are excellent. I'll definitely be picking up the third one soon. I love Dimension Theory's light probes.

  • Thank you Llynara!  As you said they aren't real world backdrops, they are meant to be very easy to use complete light setups as value packs with numerous options.  The video that's shown on the product page is more of an overview about HDRIs in general and what they can contribute to renders versus other formats.  The presets used in that video are from my HDRI Variety Packs which are real world backdrops.

Here are previews of both the actual HDRI maps and the thumbnails from Expansion 3.

I have all three now and love them.  Very very useful lights and a huge variety of colors.  I have a light for darn near anything I can think of with these.

It's funny how addictive these are. You get one and you think, "Why would I need more, there's so many!" but then you realize you don't have anything like ALL the possible color light/backdrop combos.... and you buy another... and another.... oooh and these have interesting geometric shapes?

I have 1 amd 2 and it was a no brainer to pick up number 3. They are useful lighting sets.

I use these constantly as the projection color for mesh based light sources. They add incredible dimension to your lighting.

I use these a lot, too, and I love the new expansion set.  There are tons of possibilities with lighting using these considering that the lighting for each one changes based on dome rotation.  I love using them and I think expansion 3 is the best to date.
