i've been looking for information/tutorials on projection morphs, and not finding much.
can anyone point me toward some good info? even a solid explanation of how they work and how they're created would help. :)
thanks!

I just tried this also, I found this guide SickleYield did a few years back (http://sickleyield.deviantart.com/journal/Tutorial-Creating-Dialed-Projection-Morphs-482940785). It took me quite a few tries before I got it right, the "ERC Freeze" and "Create Property" are part of the same step, in "ERC Freeze" there is a button to create the property. You also want your morph set to 100% before doing this (I created a few controllers that did nothing by having the morph set to zero before catching on to that). So you basically start with a regular morph, create a controller in ERC Freeze with AutoFollow and "As Empty Morph", then duplicate the directory you created under Morphs to "Projection Morphs" (copy not move it seems?).
I also found you have to be careful to set the "Product" name correctly (I created one under Actor-Full Body-MyProjectionMorphs, by navigating to "Full Body" and typing in my new directory manually. I also hit quite a few times where it defaulted to "My Daz Connect Library", I now make sure to change that to "My Library" - not sure why the Connect Lib didn't work for me but I'd rather use My Library anyway.
Correction to my commects - more the _proj files under Projection Morphs, and leave the originals under Morphs. Thought I had it right but this time is the charm :-)
my understanding is,, projection morph and set ERC is different things. (though we can set ERC if when we need). but just to make projection morph, it is simple.
the basic idea is,, when we make and set "FBMbig" for Actor mesh (eg genesis3F), the FBMbig usually auto-transfered for the clothing fit to genesis3F. then clothings can follow morph sahpe. if we check hidden parameter, there should be "FBMbig" as clothing parameter.
but we often need to correct generated morph of clothing.
untill daz offer projection morph, we need to edit each auto-transfered morph, then save them as same name for clothings. it is common way. many product still offer original morphs which overwrite auto transfered morphs for clothings (or graft items etc).
on the other hand, projection morph work about all clothings. as default, it can change actor mesh as FBMbig, but use another morph shape as template to generate morph.
so to make projection morph, we maty make 2 morphs. one is original morph now it call "FBMtest" which change actor shape, then save it in
/genesis3female/Morhps/name1/product-name/FBMtest1.dsf
second make projection morph, which will be used to generate morph circulation.
after import morph,, set name as "FBMtest1_proj" then it will be used, as projection template, when we set FBMtest1 for genesis3F.
save it as usuall way,,.
genesis3female/Morphs/name1/product-name/FBMtest1_proj.dsf (or you can save them as you like,)
the important step is, to work as projecition morphs for FBMtest1, we need to manyally move this file to
"genesis3female/Projection Morphs/name1/product-name/FBMtest1_proj.dsf"
as you can see, I only change Morphs directory to "Projection Morphs" directory.
and I add _proj for dsf name. .
where we save projeciton morph first, may not cause any differenct. (I usually use same location of morph )
but after save it as morph, we need to locate it (manually move) correctly for (morphname)_proj.dsf.
Then usually I do not keep first saved projection morph, in Morph directory. (I do not test it, then do not know it can work still as usuall morph or not)
Setting ERC for those projection morphs, (or make zero morph first, then make projection morph , and add switch etc,,, or set ERC to projection work only about minus value,, etc are actually expand usage, as each purpose. Yes there should be many possiblity, if we use them with ERC well.)
Then it is supposed to change generate morph shape, if you make it with zero morph,
that means you made controller which can adjust all clothing sahpe without change actor shape. (it work about all clothings which fit to,, around morph area)
1. make zero morph first, (in parameter tab ,go to edit mode), plan what effect you hope to, eg now I hope to make projection morph, which can smooth breast area of T shirt or underwear etc.
2. set name for zero morph , eg "ChestSmooth" then save it as usuall morph(though it is zero morph, then no effect).
data/.../figurename/morphs/myname/myprojections/ChestSmooth.dsf
3 next make real projection morph. export genesis3F to your favorite modelor, then tweak around chest, (just imagin, how it will be generated to clothings)
I just sculpt and Fill breast concave gap area, and make smooth transition, under line, then a little bit expand to side. not make it so hard. then must keep the obj,
(because, make projection morph as same as what I plan is not easy. we can just imagine, how it will be generate, then need to tweak much after test them with clothing
4 import new smooth shape obj, by morphloader, then set name as "Chestsmooth_proj" in parameter setting. and locate it as same path as where "ChestSmooth" show in parameter tab.
save it to same location (step2), now it wll be located in
"data/.../figurename/morphs/myname/myprojections/Chestsmooth.dsf"
5 make new directory and locate this file in "figurename/Projection Morphs/myname/myprojections/Chestsmooth_proj.dsf. I delete Chestsmooth_proj.dsf in "Morph" directory, which I saved before.
6 load new genesis3female, (i use genesis8 sorry,,) then attach cloth (it may good for use auto-fit items, it may often show gap)
then tweak "ChestSmooth" parameter, of your actor, it now should smooth (or expand etc) your clothing, but keep genesis3 mesh shape without morphing.
