What have I done? (Missing Mesh Mystery)

After several days of getting a character like I wanted her, I decided to try a different pair of shorts.   When I removed the shorts, I noticed some mesh was missing.  I went back several versions and it had been missing for a while.  I want to save this character to my library, but I want to fix the problem first.   I checked to make sure that no part of G3F was hidden in the scene menu.  I checked the surfaces to make sure no part of her was made invisible with the Opacity Cutout.   I reloaded the base skin mesh and that did not fix the problem. I can't believe I messed it up after all that work. (Obviously working on it late at night was not a great idea. ) See picture.    Any Ideas?

  • Hmm... Not sure what's wrong here, if you checked the scene tab and that part isn't hidden, because that was going to be my suggestion.

If all else fails, just save the pose, materials and shape then load a new figure and re-apply it all

Did you actually remove the shorts from the scene, not just turn them invisible? In the latter case if they are a GeoGraft then any mesh they hidden will remain hidden - it will come back if you delete the shorts, or fit them to None.

Geografts will sometimes do this.  I suspect it is related to some "shorts" item that you still have in the scene but have hidden.  Try unfitting or deleting any currently hidden clothing one at a time.

Well, you guys/girls were right.   I had tried several pairs of shorts to find a look I liked. I had several pairs hidden.  I removed them one at a time until the mesh came back.  I did not notice the missing mesh in progress, because I had a geo shell pair pof tights on the model that obscured the skin beneath.  So I got my model back and did not ahve to recreate. (Thanks to all og you)   Now can someone give me the short answer for what a geograft is?  Thanks in advance.

A geograft modifies a portion of the parent "fitted" figure's geometry to turn some polygons invisible.  Its most common use is to seamlessly integrate new figure anatomy such as genitals, tails, and wings.  A few clothing items were crafted to use it as a shortcut to eliminate poke-through.  It is possible to remove the effect by manually editing the item's .dsf file and eliminating the portion of the code which references "graft".  Obviously you'll want to make a back up before attempting.  Another simpler solution is to add a geoshell to the figure and then fit the clothing item to the geoshell instead.

The effect can be minimised with the Geometry Editor tool - select a sngle polygon you don't mind being hidden, right click with the tool in the Viewport with the GeoGraft fitted and (from memory) Geometry Asignment>Set AutoHide faces for fitted figures, then select the geoGraft in the dialogue. The effect won't be seen until you fit the GeoGraft to None and then bak to the base figure.
