I one got a great tip form someone here, on how to use Wings3D to split an object in an OBJ file into groups (by exporting I think it is)
But I have forgotten how to do it.

1) Does anyone know? For example, I got hold of a 3D model of the Hubble telescope, but it is in one piece. With wings3D I was able to plit it up in groups, lens, cover, solra cell panels etc etc. Now I have lost both the model and the knowledge on how to do it..

2) How do I search the old Carrara forums?

You need to use the following address

http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/ then go to the Carrara forum and search.

Jimmy, this saved my day :)
I found the thread in question. For those who might be interested:

Sometimes when importing obj files, you get a complex object in one piece. But the designer, when creating the original object, made it out of many seperate pieces, then combining them. In a miraculous way, the application Wings3d can separate them again.
Just open the file in wings3d, select all, then right-click the object anywhere, and select "Separate". This will split the object up in many separate pieces. When exporting from Wings3d, you will get an obj file with all parts separated.
    Very useful, indeed.

    Nice one!

I forgot to mention that the site is a bit slow, but it is still very useful.
