Folder Structure for 3rd Party Content

Hi guys... I know this question has been asked a gazillion times. I have intalled third party content before but I've never had the issue I am having with this one. Seems like there is too much redundancy with the folder structure. I unzipped to desktop and there were two folders... One "Runtime" and one "Textures". The full structure of the two is below. How would I go about setting this up? My PC install on windows10 (where all my content is) is = D:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

Folder 1 - Runtime

(nested folders)
   Geometries
     Tannenbaum
       German SS
         OBJ Files
   Libraries
     Character
        Tannenbaum
          German SS
            PNG/CR2 Files
     Light
         Tannenbaum
            German SS
               PNG/lt2 Files
     Pose
         Tannenbaum
            German SS
              PNG/pz2 Files
     Props
      Tannenbaum
             German SS
               PNG/pp2 Files
   Textures
          Tannebaum
             German SS

Basics for third content installations: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/73657/installing-rdna-materials-on-daz-studio#latest

But the folder structure you have above looks about right.

  • I still can't find it in anywhere in Daz though once I've installed it following that.

    Ok two things,

Are you looking in the products db it wont show there; (unless you have a plug in) Check under DAZ and Poser formats at the top. Also check the documentation, Noelle by sabby might be Sabby-Noelle; and while this a character as the artist saved most everything as poses I found that Character under poses. Actually I find alot of things that dont seem right for poses there, Mat-poses, et all. The documentation will help you get inside the artists head and track down your stuff. Also make sure you have scanned known directories for files. DAZ still has to discover 3rd party content vs IM downloads.

    2. To avoid redundant tiers it some tmes helps to peal the onion on the zip till you get too /runtime ok now merge the zip runtime to library/runtime and all other folders to thier twins at that level. I use like 80% 3rd party content and have never head a product fail for doing this, but i learned to do this the hard way and it really cleaned up my runtime. I currently only have 3 library/runtimes one for IM one for poser products and one for the stuff i've made.

    (Thanks Bee).

Two things... you will not find the content in Smart Content. You'll have to use the Content Directory. Check the "Poser Formats" under Figure, Lights, Materials.

The other thing, is your DAZ content directory properly "known" in DAZ Studio, using the Content Directory Manager? As you have installed your content in the D drive. If not, check the thread I pointed to.

  • No I wasn't looking in Smart Content. And I'm almost certain my content manager is set up fine. I've installed 3rd party content before without issue. I can at least find folders for the content now. Just not seeing any actual content files.

Take everything out of the German_SS.... folder and put it in the My Library or My Daz 3D Library folder, where it will merge with the existing Runtime folder. The Content will then be in Poser Formats>M y Library

Thanks for the suggestion. Just tried this. Now I can't even find folders anywhere.

  • I currently have the corresponding folders set like this. Not sure what I am doing wrong?

Simple. If you check your content directory manager screenshot, your directies are both on C:... but that content you have is in D:

Add the D:\users\public\my DaZ3D Library both to the DAz and Poser directories.

  • D'oh!! That was it Bee. What a dope I am. Thanks sooo much everyone!!
