Moving objects great distances
in The Commons
Here's a silly one. Some time ago, I bought a add-on or utility to assist with moving characters/objects across large landscapes.
It could have been a script. I grabbed it after I wore out my finger using the mouse scroll whee when I first installed Daz. lol
Now, I can't remember what it was and how it was supposed to work.
Terrible I know. Anyone know what that product it could have been?

Could it be this one: mcjComeHere - a freebie from Casual? (You have your camera where you want the object to be, run the script and it brings the object into view)
That's not it, but that should do it too. I remember some kind of artwork that showed, like a dessert area or rocky terrain and a way to select a place on a map or grid. The ad-text is lightly painted in my brain so I think it must have been a full product for sale. Nothing shows up in my product library under any key word I can think of. And I know it was like "Solve the hassle of placing objects in large landscapes! - and I could have sworn the word Assist or Assistant was in the name.
Man, that was only 3 or 4 months ago and I am blank.
It was on sale and I rememebr thinking 'someday I'm going to need this" and grabbed it.
But I could be confusing utilities...cause my Daz library shows nothing related...
It definately had nice artwork to with it,....looked like one of those Easy Environments or Terradome landscapes...
I think you mean this one:

YES!
Now where do I find it or use it? lol
These damn elusive readmes
One recommendation when moving objects long distances is to increase the translation nudge setting for X,Y and Z, you can do this in parameters by finding X Tran etc, and then selecting Parameter Settings.
The default nudge is quite low, 0.24 or so, and increasing this will massively speed up a figure/props movement when using the movement sliders. Naturally high nudge values make it more difficult to fine tune small movements, so you would need to set it back if that was needed later.
Wonderful hints! Thanks.
I keep a NOTES document with all these tips and tricks
I'm going to mix and match techniques... BUT! What I learned most is use the o.o.o Origin point first and get everything together and THEN move things around.
Nothing like trying to put people in a car and pose them- when the car has already been edited and positioned far from its Merge point into the scene.
A method I use quite often is to add a primative sphere which of course comes in at 0,0,0 in front of the default camera. I then use the perspective camera to zoom out and then I move the entire envoronment, architecture or whatever using the translate tool to the position I want it. The advantage being that any addition people or props I add come in right in front my rendering camera and won't have to be dragged long distances. If all that makes sense. This may require you to parent some things before you move them if they are not already parented, but most things these days come parented to the floor or ground and can be moved as a group.
If there is another object close to there you want the first object you can select and copy-paste the XYZ Translate values (select and copy all three at once) from the second object and paste them to the first, then it will move to where the second object is. Easy to put people in a car that way, for example, you just copy the car position to each of them.
Also, to move the scene fast, use the Scene Navigator on the Tool Settings pane, here you can adjust the speed of the controls.
If there are already items in the destination area don't overlook the Align pane. The last item selected is the reference for alignment.
