Deslecting All Items in the Scene Tab

I've searched, and I'm sure this question must be asked a thousand times...

I go into my scene tab, I select an item. Then I want to select NONE of the items, maybe so that I can get a new character in the Smart Content tab. I can't, because there is no gray space in the scene tab. I can't resize the scene tab big enough to make gray space available, because beneath it are my tabs for Lights, Posing, Parameters, Shaping, Surfaces, etc...

I can undock the scene tab and then resize it - but that is kind of a pain. Is there an easier way to just unselect all items in the scene tab?

Right-click on the "Scene" tab (the text on the tab), and then "Select" -> "Clear Selection"

I select all children objects then right click on the root object in the parameter's tab and zero pose all the time...

This is just a variation of that...

Which makes me feel even sillier for not ever even thinking to look there. I always SEE there are a lot of other menu items in those side-menus... that I always ignore because... "Those probably don't do anything I care about..."

    *sigh*. :)
