Strangeness from file to file

Hi,

Been working away in my spare time getting projects for the Hive finished up.  Started up a new file for Dawn, brought in the clothing items I was working on for her was doing test renders.  All of a sudden my test render went from a few minutes to over 30 minutes.  Saved out the clothing items, reloaded them, still no joy with timing.  Loaded just the boots into the mixed file with Dusk and Dawn and the scene rendered out in like 3 minutes. 

So my question is why would a file with LESS items in it render so much slower than a file with MORE items in it? 

I've checked my render settings, they are fine in both cases, identical actually so it's not that.  Thought my new computer was supposed to be faster but .... not so sure about that!  lol

    Translucency can slow things down, as can other effects that allow light to bounce around more than usual.

    Seems something else.  I had a couple of material zones set up with translucency but when I turned them off completely I still had a very long 30+ minute test render.
