Studio keeps deleting items from its library

Is there a way to get Daz Studio NOT deleting items from its library.  Just had to spend 20 minutes to download a series of shaders that should have been available right away.  This is really ticking me off!

I can understand why it does it with Aiko 3, Aiko 4, Victoria 4 and the rest of the older models but these are Iray shaders so they're decidedly in use NOW!

  • Are you sure they are being deleted? That's not something DS will do - it will, however, hide soem items in the Smart Content pane if Filter by Context is checked.

  • That happens when I've left a word in the search bar and navigate around. I have to go back and delete the word.

Also, happens when I switch from FILES to PRODUCTS, I sometimes can't find stuff.

And the LOST and FOUND seems to change every day.

  • Items had to be downloaded.  It leaves a greyed out icon to represent the group of items but it isn't locatable in a search.

Deleting items from a database is NOT acceptable behaviour from any app.

  • And isn't soemthing DS will do by design - it sounds as if either soemthing is interfering with the communication between the Content Management System and DS or soemthing external to DS is moving or removing files. Where are you installing your content? What security software are you running? Which version of Daz Studio is this - Help>About Daz Studio?

All installed through Daz Install Manager and all in the default directories.  That's why it's so frustrating.  I might understand if something were out of place but it isn't.

One thing thast might be of importance my runtime is HUGE.  I have over 4,000 items.

When you install older content such as Aiko 3, Victoria 2, 3, 4 it doesn't actually get fully installed.  DIM puts that sort of greyed out icon in the products area so even though DIM says it installed it, it still has to be installed through Studio online.

I've done a good look through and can't find a setting anywhere that should do this.

NO IT DOES NOT.  You are have either not installed things right or have not mapped your libraries properly in Studio's Content Directory Manager or just not looking for them in the right area (older content may only be available under Poser Formats in the Content Library pane).

  • Personally I believe you, It very looks like i am going to reinstall my entire IM library tomorrow, as I am finding charcters that have worked for years dont. The scripts run but they are not finding the mats. Ksenia, and other v4 toons affected. They are there proper folders but invisible to DAZ, and I have found the DAZ connect has greyed out content I have had on drive for for years. And goes through a make believe down load to access a product I bought in 2009!

I never have this problem with my renderosity content; one question I do have is if

I open the zips and install by hand, as I would my poser content should the the DAZ content function. I never use the smart content tab, as I work pretty exclusively off the catagories DB. If they work there I good. Tom.

  • If it is manually installed or installed with DAZ Install Manager, DO NOT install with DAZ Connect, even if it says there is an update and DIM does not show anything. I suspect that's what happened for the original poster.

  • Cool thanks for the heads up DayW.

  • Victoria 4 and Micahel 4 etc. should not be installed via Connect at all as they won't work.

Don't doubt that Rich my point was Connet certanly appears to be greyng out content that has been on my system for years; through several upgrades of DAZ and or my Hardware. I dont share Jes's faith in the IM; or his certainty the OP is wrong.  I would not be considering reinstalling 170+ products by hand if my experience of the IM was a good one; but the facts are otherwise I have never had 1/10th the trouble with 3rd party content I have had with DAZ and DAZ content since the DAZ3.X Days when I first installed a DAZ Studio on a Computer.

If it was not for the excellent help  of community members such as yourself I would have given up on DAZ long ago. As an artist I would  much rather be working with the content; than on it.

  • Connect "sees" content by having it in the Content Management System - if it isn't in the CMS, if for example you did a manual isntall or copied content from a previous system and didn't reimport metadata, then Connect has no way to know the files are really there.

Maybe so, but it still greys them out in the catagories DB it still goes through a faux download if I select something to use first time. So it appears to be interacting with my content whether I want it to or not; which is why I am prepping for a manual reinstall; because if DAZ thinks my DAZ Store content is just another pser library maybe it will stop mangling it

I never had such issues with 4.7 or before, it certainly appears to be the connect feature not playing nice. Once again your devs have added something that will work wonderrully for people that share their lunchroom; but as I have noted in other posts your devs seem to have no idea of the concept of the naive user. Most simply put dont assume that your user knows what you the dev knows! Example the tip by DayW if you install something by hand, to not let connect update it. How is the user supposed to just know that!? And why should connect prompt a user to do something they should not do! To my mind thats a bug folks!

First close all Smart Content panes.  Open Content Library pane, do not use Products or Categories in Content Library pane as these use the database just like Smart Content.  If things cannot be found or do not load properly from Content Library pane they are not installed or mapped properly.

  • Hello All,

I thought I had my problem solved but after several attempts I realize now that I am having the same problem as OP.  I also have a large amount of content 7000+ I am an experienced user as well as I have been kicking around here since 2006.  Thousands of items that I have have downloaded and installed through DIM are now showing up as greyed-out products in my content tab which have to be downloaded again through connect to become usable.  Something has changed, no question about it. Thanks Blackbird for making the connection.  Not sure how to procede from here.  I guess I will try to do a fresh download and install of everything on a machine I have never had Daz 3D products on to see if the problem gets duplicated.

Youn say the content was working - was this in DS 4.8 or earlier? And if so were you using the Valentina database still?

I dropped Vaentina when I moved to 4.7, so for whats thats worth for my Part no. An I had no content issues at all with 4.7; believe me If I could download an Archieve copy and roll back I would but I accidently delated my Archieve copy. (Thumps head and shouts Iggot!) Thanks Techy for the Props.

  • Last Question here: I'll be reinstalling my DAZ content by hand later today; at least starting. If I uninstall IM completely will that break the connection for DAZ connect or is that code in the 4.9Patch and will still be there even with IM uninstalled. Just so I know what to expect there. Personally as I've never had a content/DB issue with my manually installed content I'll probably just Delete it anyway. Thanks Tom.

  • Install Manager is separate from DS - they both access the CMS database, but that's it (which is why the paths can sometiems mismatch). I haven't tried to use DS without DIM installed, but there's no reason it shouldn't work.

  • Thanks Rich,

About a week ago I met a lovely lil woman Dr J. and thought I would do one of the Inpassing Studies I like to do; Just portraits of whoever I meet. I knew Immediately Ksenia would be the perfect Base Model to start with, before I started Dialing and Drawing a better Likeness. Cept when I tried to pull up Ksenia I found out that she was invisible to DAZ. And in the process I found alot of my older files had Greyed out. Well as of today and for now. Ksenia's back and I can Finally start working on that Portrait.

I feel I owe you a real round of thanks for helping me resolve this issue. I've bookmarked this thread and will let you know if my older content becomes unstable again.

    Thanks Tom.
