You can either set up your own lights, or you use one of the premade light sets (search the shop for light set).
Examples (for Iray):
I can recommend the number one set for ease of use and great looking results (check out http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/139676/just-released-boss-pro-light-set-for-portraits-promos-commercial#latest for user renders), and the number two set, which also has great lights. But it ultimately is up to you what kind of light you like. With light sets, make sure that they are Iray, unless you are rendering in 3Delight.
If you want to set up the lights manually, you'll need light coming from the front, and rim/back lights for the effect. Have you any experience in lighting a scene manually?
Lyoness told me she almost always uses the Painterly light set in the DAZ Store from j.cade, you need nVidia video card though to render such a nice portrait in a reasonable amount of time.
Yes, the painter lights is also a good set. http://www.daz3d.com/painter-s-lights
Hello! I've been working like a crazy person and not watching the forums.
This is correct. That's exactly what I used on that portrait!! I tend to use Classical 4R the most and change all the colors to white
I often use an hdri in the background. I mostly use the ones by DimensionTheory. They are well crafted and work excellently. I pulled open on of the old render files and it looks like I used iRadiance Studio HDRs (StudioHDR-Y). They are super clean and don't add extra color to a scene,
Hope this helps!!
